Guest Deb Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 We have a single domain with several locations connected together via a WAN. One user in one location is having problems accessing any network shares on one server. Anytime she tries to access a file or printer on this server it prompts for a username/password. Once she enters her credentials she can connect to the resources with no problems. If she logs off and back on she must re-enter her credentials to access the server. She is logging onto the domain. She can access other servers in the domain with no problems and without being prompted for her credentials again. Other users can log on to her PC and access the same server normally, although the account I tried was an administrator. It seems like the server is forgetting her credentials, even though she is logging onto the domain successfully. A reboot of both the problem server and the PC didn't help. The user has all the rights and permissions she needs. The workstation and server have all the latest updates. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks for your help.
Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares How is this user attempting to access the share? Mapped drive? Run command \\servername\sharename? Does this server reside in the same domain? Guest Deb Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares We tried accessing it with the UNC path and through My Network Places with the same result. Yes the server is part of the same domain as the user and her PC. "SBS Rocker" wrote: > How is this user attempting to access the share? Mapped drive? Run command > \\servername\sharename? Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares I'm a bit confused here Deb. When this user is prompted for her username and password is it asking for a domain account or a local machine account? What happens if you map hardcode a mapped drive with the users credentials and password? Will it reconnect? Guest Deb Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares Yeah, I'm confused too. I can't find any reason for her problem. She logs onto her PC with her domain credentials. She can access file shares and printers on other servers with no problems. She connects to this problem server and is prompted for her username and password. She enters the exact same username and password she used to log on and gets access to the problem server's shared files and printers and can use them for the rest of her session. If she then logs off and back on with her domain credentials and tries to access the problem server, she is again prompted for her username and password. For some reason, this one server is not recognizing the token that is generated for her at logon, although her credentials do work ift she enters them when prompted by the server. Weird stuff. Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares try hardcoding the username and password to a mapped drive and have her log off and on and see if she reconnects. Guest Scott Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares Sounds like her password on her local machine is mismatched with AD. Try having the user lock the workstation, then unlock it with the correct AD password, then reboot. Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Credentials not remember when connecting to network shares The user is not logging on with local credentials but in fact is logging into the domain. however given what you just wrote led me to think that it could be a "cached" password issue. Deb, Go to Control Panel/User accounts and deleted any Domain/username cached information.
