Logging into TS 2003 Problem

I have Windows 2003 stand. ed. with terminal server on it. i have 5 usercal

loadon. and i can see them in the manager.

 

The problem i am having is that only one user can logon at a time. I would

like to have all 5. The server was working fine for months. And today in

the middel of the day it just stoped working.

 

Any ideas?

"was working fine for months" sounds like the grace period for TS-appmode

has expired.

After that you nead to add a TS-license

Re: Logging into TS 2003 Problem

 

Have you changed the licensing mode of the TS to "Per User"

licensing? That's in terminal Services Configuration - Server

settings. It's probably still in the default "Per Device" licensing

mode.

 

If that doesn't help, please report the Exact error message that

you get, if it's always the same user who can logon, or if it's

only the *first* user who can logon, irrespective of the client or

username, and check the EventLog on the server for warnings and

errors.

Error:

 

This computer can not connect to the remote computer.

 

 

It is only the first user to logon can get in. Then it blocks everyone

else. If the person that is logon logs out then someone else can login.

 

It will only let one person on at a time.

 

Does not matter what user.

OK, that leaves 2 possibilities:

 

a) in Terminal Services Configuration - rdp-tcp connection -

properties - network tab, check the maximum number of allowed

connections. Should be unlimited, sounds like it could be set to

allow only a single connection.

 

b) check your EventLog. This behaviour could also be caused by a

problem with server CALs (not TS CALs). If so, there will be an

Event telling you that you have exceeded the licensed logon limit

for the product Windows Server (or something very similar). If that

is the case, ensure that you have enough server CALs and then

disable the Licensing Logging Service.

I think it is "a".

 

When i go to Terminal Services Config: It show one connection, but it is

all grayed out. i can not change anything.

A grayed out option means that this setting is configured in a

Group Policy.

Open a command prompt and run "gpresult" (without the quotes). It

will show you all GPOs which are applied to the TS. Check them for

this setting, which is located in:

 

Computer Configuration - Administrative templates - Windows

Components - Terminal Services

"Limit number of connections"
