Rootman88 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) Hello users and thank you for taking your time to read this post, what follows is a problem which has been baffling me for months, and i have no other place to turn for help! My Pc specifications are as follows: Processor: Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz Memory RAM: 3.00GB System type: 32-bit operating system# Hardware space: 500GB Windows Vista Home premium Ok, this all started about 2 months ago, my PC randomly shutdown, closing all applications then turning itself off. As i tried to start it back up again it kept turning itself off before the booting screen, and turning itself BACK ON AGAIN without me touching it. It would continue turning itself on and off until it will finally load and either the Windows start-up repair runs...or it actually boots up....it will then work for about 2 days...then do it again. I have had a new PSU fitted, I have tried changing the power cable, i have had a proffessional to clean my fan and replace the heating paste (to eliminate a heat issue).... I have no idea what is wrong! why is it so random...what can i do to stop it! EDIT: Occasionaly, when i sleep, the computer will boot up on it's own and turn on and off as i mentioned before.... Thank you Rootman. Edited March 15, 2009 by Rootman88 Quote
maynardvdm Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi Have you looked at the physical button that you press to see if it is damaged or not. Also make sure the power button cable is in the correct place on the motherboard. Also make sure Windows is up to date with the latest service packs installed and your Antivirus software is up to date and enabled. Quote We are all members helping other members. mike Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Hey, I too would first check your power button on the case. I have seen this many times before. Also, when you say "my PC randomly shutdown, closing all applications then turning itself off" does it actually display the message saying "Windows is now shutting down" or does it just turn off straight away without warning? Rootman88 Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 if it shuts down, sometimes it just turns off in an instant, sometimes it asks if i am sure i want to shut down, displays what is running. If at this point i click cancel it sometimes stays on, sometimes it doesn't. Last night i went to bed, it was fine....i woke up...it will not boot up AT ALL, just turns itself off after a few seconds....i am currently using a friends PC. This is so messed up...it may either be...a motherboard issue, a button issue or a software issue.... i dont know how to fix any of them.... Rootman. Quote
Rootman88 Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 might actually just smash the pc to bits, problem solved.... I'm sure i can find some cash to buy another.... Quote
maynardvdm Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Hi Have you tried getting a new power button? You could also try a different power supply. On your motherboard where the power cable goes and reset switch, try putting the reset switch cable where the power cable goes and turn the pc on using the reset button. See if that works. Fluke Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I had the exact same problem about 6 months ago, and believe it or not the problem was something i'd never thought it would be - Graphics card. It was happening for about 4 months, pc restarting randomly. So I assumed it was overheating and done everything to confirm it. In the end I decided to try a different Graphics card, and to my suprise it finally stopped. So I assume now that the Graphics card, although has it's own fan and looked to be fully working, was over heating so the pc was shutting down to avoid possible hardware damage. It's worth a try to replace your existing one with a spare, probably best not to buy one incase it's not the solution in your case. Quote
Rootman88 Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 thanks Hey thanks guys, sorry i havent been on in a while (my pc was obviously going haywire)... My PC has had to go to repair, i got a new graphics card, new PSU, new Motherboard, a new power button and more heat paste.... The problem still lies. For now i am using an old PC but i wish to install more RAM on it until my new PC comes back from the dead...but i will make another post for that lol. Thanks guys btw, and dont worry about this thread anymore, if the PC repair place can't fix it....i will just buy a new comp :) Rootman. Quote
Match Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Sounds like you only need a DVD drive,RAM,HDD and CPU and you have a new computer? Quote
danzil Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 have you run checks on the hard drive. faulting hard drive can cause a pc to shutdown, more usually just reboot but i have seen it once or twice. seems the shop just wanted you to buy items,,,,way t much hardware to change ti fix a shutting down issue,,,,,,doubt very much they all had a fault.....did they allow you to take your old hardware back, you could of reused these in another pc or a small workgroup server or something. regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
