Guest Krykino Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I need to repartition my W2K which is PDC and of course I have created IDR for it. I need to have a backup plan in case the IDR restoration failed. Therefore, I plan to manually reinstall the drivers, OS and promote it into PDC, and configure the AD sites and services in order it can synchronize the AD and group policy with the existing BDC (W2K3). My question is, can the synchronization be done with that way? The way of demoting a PDC to BDC is to change the PolSrvRo registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY\Policy from 3 to 2. Unfortunately, the PolSrvRo is not found. Do I have to create a key with the same name and add a value for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Guest Iain Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Re: Can a new PDC replicate with existing BDC? Hi May I ask are you wishing to Join your W2K server to W3k Domain in same forest? W2k does not act like NT4 in the way PDC & BDC but uses active directory replication in either transative or non-transative trust methods. You may add the W2k server as a member server in the same domain which will replicate active directory and you may apply load balancing across the 2 servers. Each server is capable of domain authentication should either fail. You may also include replication of directories to duplicate data held on either server. Also I have succesfully in the past added new drives to W2K server .. promoted to dynamic disks and expanded partions over the new disks and with reputable disk management programs expanded the boot volume. Hope this helps. -- Iain Marshall MCSE MCSA MCPs MCP "me" wrote: > Krykino wrote: > > I need to repartition my W2K which is PDC and of course I have created IDR > > for it.
