Hi fab4boothy,

Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code.

It is in your best interest to note the following:

    3. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK.
    4. Click on the More Options tab.
    5. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one.

This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in "System Restore" are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only foolproof way to ensure the deletion of those files.

Note: Please don't use it on a regular basis as this will clear all previous restore points. The feature might be very useful to revert your computer to working condition if something goes wrong.

Re-enable all your security applications and please return here and tell us how the computer seems to be operating.

    Mike

From what I gather you cannot get into window at all. Correct?

If that is the case got to the link in this post http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/downloads/4255-windows-xp-recovery-console.html and download the recovery console on your laptop. Burn it to a cd and try booting the pc from it. Make sure that the boot sequence is set to CD first then hard drive.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Can't get into windows'???

After doing all the tasks from Mikes reply, internet explorer is now working but the error message still pops up whenever i start up the computer.

I dont have the windows disk to do what Maynardvdm suggested.

Sorry I misread the your post and looked to the beginning where you indicated that the error occurs on startup. That does not change my suggestion that you try to boot from a disk created by following my post. If you have a corrupt or missing boot file that should correct it.

Look for a folder called i386 on the hard drive. There maybe a couple but the one you are looking for will have alot of files in.

Tell me if you found it.

Sorry wrong use of word.

I searched for the 'folder' and could not find it

Also it says i am on XP - that is for my laptop

As i said before, my cousin has just given me his pc which is on Vista

I have to say that anytime i ask for advice on this forum i always get talked down to.

God forbid i use the wrong word.

There is a significant difference between a folder and a file in this case.

I don't have the windows disk for the pc.

My cousin gave it to me because he's gone to Thailand.

You did not say it was Vista not that it matters much. You now have links to both.

Most of the people who reply to my posts are rude

People spend a lot of time researching issues for you as well as other members. I see no evidence of anyone being rude to you. I do see where on previous posts you have not always been totally forthcoming and have let things simply die without a reply. That is your right but from a forum perspective, any decent forum, that is what is considered rude.

I specifically listed it in the 'Windows Vista' section of the forum

The reason why previously i have left things is because people who were replying were not reading properly what i had written and were making out like i was doing things wrong.

Again, speaking down to me

My friend, it you who seems to be doing all of the disparaging here. I explained why you were given the XP disk but that did not seem to satisfy you. Nonetheless you seem fixated on trying to prove that the fault lies with me for your not giving you the proper link.

You are right, we should have asked you why you were posting in Vista when your profile says XP. It went unnoticed. Of course you could have simply told us in your opening post.

Finally, if you are going to list yourself as an "utter fool" then it is important that we know that you understand the difference between a folder and a file. We don't need to waste our time or yours based on a misunderstanding.

In Fact , just to be certain I have taken the time to review each of the 6 previous threads that you have started and can find nothing but members and staff here going out of their way for you. There was the one thread previous to this where, as I said before, you were less than forthcoming.

Now this aspect of this discussion is over. If you want to post your status after trying the boot disk, and seek additional help if needed. that is fine. Any further discussion along these present lines and I will just close this thread as it will go nowhere.
