Acronis True Image

I am thinking of getting a copy of Acronis True Image but having read the spec sheet, I am unsure if I will be able to use this to backup all the different PC's and laptops in the household (6) or will I need a copy for each machine, too expensive if that's the case.

 

Any other options gratefully received.

Technically speaking, you're only allowed one license per machine. This is typical of most software.

 

BTW, True Image is a great program. I've been using it myself and have cloned a couple of failed hard drives successfully.

It would be worthwhile checking with Acronis as to their policy. Spools appears to be stating what is generally true but some software companies do allow multiple use of their software.

I have a suggestion, it is not really an image solution but it is a good backup utility.

 

It is called Mozy, an online backup service. Basically specify what files / folders you want to back up and it will automatically back them up for you on a daily basis (you can change the frequency). Great thing is that it work across multiple platforms (Ie, Windows, Mac) and there is no need for backup media (Ie, CD's, DVD, Hard Drive, etc).

 

There is a free account where you get 2GB storage or you can pay $4.95 per month (which is about £3.50) for unlimited storage.

 

Just a suggestion, but as Randy said, have a look around for Free open source alternatives first.

Also Acronis do a free but basic home use version, the fun bit is finding it. However, after a bit of a search I found this,-

it is version 8, which I believe is the 2004 release, hence it now being free. It will still do the job though and I use it myself. I used a different rout than this one, as when I got mine it was on a time limited release, this one appears not. Good luck.

right - lets clear something up :D

Norton is one of the most used and most targeted FW/AV suites, thats reason enough to stay away from it, but lets not forget they own Sygate (one of the best firewall programs around IMHO :))

The ghost program is also a good one - have a look and see what you think, you may be surprised

go to maxtor or seagate and download maxblast. instal it on one computer than make the bootable cd. same thing as acronis(matter of fact it is acronis). use simple mode to make backup images onto a partition or to cd/dvd. u can also clone drives with it.

I have been using Acronis True Image for at least 6 years now. I have had no problems installing it on WinXp, WinVista, and now Win7 32 or 64 bit, laptops incl. The license issue is another matter.
