Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail Problem

hey people

 

I been having this problem with Live Messenger and Live Mail, once I sign in on those I get a message which says "Wndows Live Communications Platform has stoped working" and as a result I am not able sign in. I am not sure why its happening, I have uninstalled both and then re-installed them and I still get the problem.

and have you been disabling anything in startup or disabling processes?

cheers for the reply Dalo, I installed a few updates but got at error "code 80073712" is that anything important?

 

I still get the problem, how do I check for the startup or disabling processes? I went into control panel and startup programs there and everything that needed to be permitted was permitted, is there other ways I can check them? what sort of things should I be looking at the start up programs?

To answer your question regarding startup and services, go to "Start" then "Run." When the box pops up type msconfig. The startup tab will show you what you are running on start up. You can disable any item listed. Expanding the second line will give you more information of the program.

 

This is a reversible process but you should not disable anything you are not sure of. Normally if it is not a windows program there is little likelihood that you will cause any real problems. If you do not know what something is, I would suggest you leave it alone and ask. Once you are done and you exit msconfig you will be prompted to restart.

 

You will restart in a diagnostic mode (a window will appear) this will keep happening until you click the box saying not to run it again or show the window. If you go to the general tab and click normal startup you will undo all of your changes.

 

The same if true for items listed under the services tab.

Right I checked it out and everything was ticked, not sure what some of those things are so I took your advice and left them as they are. Is there something specifically that I should be looking at, I sometimes get a windows problem with my NVIDIA nForce error messege, it just comes out the blue, could that be the problem?

We are losing track of the initial problem but if you can post a screenshot of your mscinfig startup tap open we may be able to advise you on some of them. It may take 2 screenshots to get them all.

I am now getting a error messege stating

 

This problem was caused by Nforce Network Access Manager, which was created by NVIDIA Corporation.

right I found the root of the problem, well...I hope I did lol, its something called "nvappfilter.dll" can some one explain to me what that is, I googleing it and there have been loads of people who have been having the same problem

Jazz most of what you are showing is not needed for startup. But you have a ton of them and it is hard to go though and list them all. However they are pretty obvious. If you do not need them at start up disable them the - chat, adobe reader, the MSN live services etc. stream? Basically if these are things you have added yourself and you do not need them on an immediate basis each time you boot the pc disable them and start them only when needed.

Jazz I saw your post after I finished posting. You have a few Nvidia programs that do not look necessary on start up. Try disabling them first and see if the problem stops.

If it does fine, but you still should look at all the junk you are starting each and every time you boot. The file you mention is defiantly related to Nvidia.

ok I have disabled a few things from the start up that I didn't need, what sort of Nvidia things are you particulary looking at, I am looking at the start up and not making much sence of what things I don't need :(.

There are a few, something called ntunes and another library. Frankly Jazz if you will take the time to make a list of all that stuff we can guide you regarding their usefulness at start up. The problem is that most are not and your screen shot does not show the full second line. You need to expand that second line. Saying that, you can follow the rule of thumb I have given you.

I have been playing around with for a few days now, been looking at this nvapfilter.dll, was on the nvidia forums and eveyone who has this problem have been having internet problems as they not able to get on the internet, but I dont have that problem, so I just downloaded another messeger program Digsby and its much better that MSN, Beeceebee thank you for the msconfig tip I was able to disble a few things and the pc is already loading up much quicker than before.

The Nvidia 4 is a chipset driver - it controls your ethernet ports and other things too.

If you have disabled it - thats bad as its not fixing the problem, you need to get you MOBO disk out or goto Nvidia.com and get the latest Chipset driver for your motherboard.

Its an easy fix - chances are yours is corrupt.
