Guest brent Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Hello, I have a W2003 R2 server configured as DC, DNS & DHCP at a branch office. It is currently setup in a test lab and everything seems to be working fine. I have a VPN connection between the main office and the branch office. My problem is that when I reboot this server the gateway changes to the main office's gateway (192.168.1.1 versus 192.168.0.1). The IP is configured manually and I confirmed that the router is not configured as a DHCP server. I'm not sure what is causing the change (or why a change would happen since it is manually configured). Additional info: Main office- SBS 2003 R2 server IP=192.168.1.20 default gw= 192.168.1.1 Branch office- W2003 R2 server IP =192.168.0.50 default gw=192.168.0.1 Again, everything seems to be working fine. I can access both ways.........However, if I have to restart the change to the server's default GW stops everything. Thanks!
Guest brent Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 RE: Default Gateway setting changes after reboot Actually it's not even taking a reboot.....I had everything working and tried to connect using remote desktop (across the VPN) and during the logon process the connection was lost (due to the gw changing!) Guest brent Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 RE: Default Gateway setting changes after reboot I found this and will try: Subject: RE: Server Default Gateway Changes upon Administrator Login Date: 6/7/2007 2:17 AM PST From: Billy Li Hi Aaron, Thank you for your update and response. I am glad to hear that the problem has been fixed. I appreciate your cooperation on this issue. For your reference, I would like to make a brief summary for this issue: Issue: ============== Windows 2003 member Server auto-changed its default Gateway from 10.0.3.254 to 10.0.5.254 when domain admin logon Member server. Assessment: ============== Based on my research, the issue may be caused by a user logging on to your Windows 2003 member Server, which then invokes script SBS_LOGIN_SCRIPT.bat, whose command is \\SERVER\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s SERVER. For the setup.exe in the logon script, it generally does the following job: 1. It works with the client apps component to install default client application assigned by the wizard and presents shortcuts to customized apps delegated to clients/Installs apps. 2. Modifies machine time sync configurations at the registry level. 3. When running on a member server it will change your default gateway setting to that of your SBS regardless of static entries under TCP/IP. Succinctly, this issue can occur if one of the following is true: 1. SBS_LOGIN_SCRIPT.bat is executed when domain admin logon member server 2. There are third party applications changing the TCP/IP settings. Resolution ============== Remove logon script from profile properties. This information will help us to understand the issue and situation more quickly. Thank you! 1. Has the server/client/product ever worked? 2. If so, what changed? 3. What service packs and updates were applied? 4. What are the steps to reproduce the problem? 5. Does it happen the same way on any other systems? 6. Please provide the exact error message with any screenshots, if possible. Again, thank you for your time and efforts. Have a nice day!
