Remote Desktop from Vista to XP, can't use local network printer

Apologies if this is a much-asked question (but I can't find the answer!).

I have a Vista machine at one location and need to use an application

running on an XP box at another. I'd like to be able to print to my

local printer, which stands alone on the network. I can see the "Fax"

printer on my local machine among the printers on the remote session,

but not the network one. Is there a fix?

I connect using a VPN connection (from the standard Windows connection

setup) which terminates on the modem/router at the remote office.

Remote Desktop works well. I've tried this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302361/en-us

... adding "FilterQueueType" - no good.

I also tried this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q264039/

.... net use lpt3 \\localhost\printer (having shared the printer). No good.

I'm half resigned to the existing workaround of "printing" to PDF using

TinyPDF and moving that to the local machine via \\tsclient\C\temp, or

perhaps in the future setting up a two-way VPN by replacing the local

modem, but if there's a simple way of doing this, I'd sure like to know it!

Is the print driver installed on the remote box?

Well aimed! Thank you for that nudge in the right direction. I copied

the driver files to the remote PC, and installed them by creating a

dummy printer on an unused TCP/IP port - then deleted port and printer.

The next time I made the connection, the desired local printer was

available on the remote session and was even the default printer.

Much appreciated!

Phil
