zillah Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 (edited) I tried many sources through my google search , but I could not sort out my problem When I checked the Event Viewer (XP with SP3) I saw the message below DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service MDM with arguments "" in order to run the server: {0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064} For more information, see Help and Support Center at Any other thought or comment that I might miss Edited March 20, 2009 by zillah Quote

Match Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I have problem that desktop icon does not appear as normal , it takes while to appear (2 minutes) Can you be a little more specific on that please? Is it just one desktop Icon that's got a problem or all of them? also do you have a firewall program? if so which one or are you just using the windows firewall? and also (Don't panic just that the complexity of this problem one of the easiest ways out may be a re-install) do you have any files or folders that you do not want to loose, and if so do you know how much Hard Drive Space they take up? and just in case things go wrong do you have an alternative computer you can use to contact us? and finally just to let you know that if you don't get a reply for a while (12hrs Max) it's because I am going to discuss the best way to proceed with this based on the information you provide with some of the more experienced members of staff. Please don't be alarmed, this problem can be solved but I'm concerned about having to fix registry issues, and instructing a novice on how to. the last thing I want to do is leave you stuck with a computer that does not work and no way to contact us to sort it out :) Quote

maynardvdm Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Hi What antivirus software are you using? To rule out malware as the problem please follow these steps: Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Double-click on the file to run the program. On the Main tab, check the Select All button. Next, click on the Firefox tab (if applicable) and check the Select All button. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. Note: Please don't use it on a regular basis as this will clear all previous restore points. The feature might be very useful to revert your computer to working condition if something goes wrong. RandyL Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 3) when did this error first occur and if you can remember if you had just installed or uninstalled any software? If I am not mistaken (I am not sure or I can not recall) when I installed some registry cleaning programs If you installed registry cleaning programs you probably used them. If this is the case you might have corrupted the registry beyond repair. Most of these programs are completely bogus and will only do harm. Even a reputable one should only be used by a master. Try the guide that Maynardvdm posted in case one of those was malware or your problem stems from malware. But at the end of the day I would backup your data as your registry might now be corrupted more then you know. You may encounter many more future problems if you ran those unknown registry cleaners. Match Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Hi Zillah after reading through this thread and others posted on other forums, I think that some how your windows registry has been corrupted and rather than spend weeks and weeks trying to find a repair the easiest option would be to wipe the drive clean and start again with a fresh install of windows :( HERE is a link to Microsoft's support page on how to, please read it carefully, and I would advise printing it off before you commence this procedure Quote
