Remote Desktop Failing when Port is changed

Hi,

I hope i put this in the correct forum, but i am setting up my computer, not

on a LAN, to use port 5632 for the remote desktop host. I've opened the

appropriate port on the router but i get "because of a protocol error" code

0x1104, the connection was disconnected when i try to connect to it from

another computer not on the same connection. Does this make any sense?

Changing an RDP port has no effect on its operation if

done properly. Since it does not work for you, you missed

something. You should report more details, e.g.

- On which machine you changed the port,

- Where exactly you changed it,

- What number you changed it to (hex or decimal),

- What exactly you changed in your router,

- What command you use when establishing a connection.

Pegasus,

thanks for the response. It turns out that pcAnywhere was running on that

port, which explained the failure.

by the way, is it possible to RD into a computer without locking the user's

desktop?

Re: Remote Desktop Failing when Port is changed

Look at using remote assistance in lieu of RDP.
