Guest gs Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I think the existing configuration of the DNS and AD on the primary file server and teh exchanges is less than optimal. I thought both windows 2003 server are configured with dns, whichever first is boot up that would be the primary and the other will be secondary. they configured the primary server to look for the other DNS and AD. If the exchange server is not , certificate service will not run, AD will have error messages....PC workstations may have difficulty with drive maps and DNS access. I thought the whole idea of have AD replication and 2nd DNS is to make the entire system more reliable and dependent but I am seeing more problem then the single old windows 2003 server we had what is the proper way to troubleshoot and make correction?
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Re: windows 2003 dsn and Ad setup Hello gs, It is not completely clear to understand for me, are both servers Domain controllers? If yes, make an Active Directory integrated zone if not done. Check that both machines point to itself as prefeered DNS and as secondary to the other. Also the clients have to point to both DNS servers. With dcdiag /v and netdiag /v you can check the dc's for errors first. If you have errors post the complete output here. Also you should configure all dc's to be Global catalog servers. Otherwise clients will get problem with logon, when the GC is down.
