Wondering if there is a free Program, that will allow you to enlarge an image, without sending it blurry.Reducing no problem.I realize it is all about pixels. Thanks.:)

Well I doubt it Dougie because if you have only x amount of pixels in the pic then the bigger it gets the more distortion you will have.

Actually I have just tested a pic of our Chaz in Paint Shop Pro and have increased the size from 60kb to 1.42mb with no significant deterioration.

File size and amount of pixels to start with is indeed an issue.

The two are not always related.

It gets complicated and it does depend on the programs you use.

Paintshop Pro can do wonders.

As long as the original file contains enough data you can increase the size without noticing deteriation.

The point being you need a good file to start with.

also know that a computer screen will show better than an actual printed pic. Computer screens are... for lack of a better term... high def. SO what you see on the screen will be of slightly better quality than what actually prints out.

I have had a look round and found this very interesting write up followed by a download for free trial or option to buy.

If you are looking for free image editing software, have a look at GIMP.

It sounds odd, but it's a fantastic piece of software and will scale images for you, and has different ways of creating the extra pixels.

Some parts of the computing world suggest it rivals Photoshop with its capabilities. I can't say - I don't know enough about image editing, but I do like it.

UPDATE.

Have BenVista PhotoZoom Pro 2, on Trial and looks good so far.

Downloaded Gimp, but looks to be a fair learning curve, with this program.

I have time to evaluate.:)

It's been some time since I used Gimp but it really is a good program. Play around with it when you have time. There are some tutorials on their site for how to use it if I remember right. It was easier to use then I first thought.

Good luck.

Depending on the initial quality of the pic you can also hold CTRL and use the mouse wheel up/down as you would to make text on a webpage bigger/smaller.

But like I said it depends on the initial quality of the image :)
