Second desktop and Kindle App

I am working on my dissertation and I am finding the need to have multiple textbooks open at the same time. I use the Kindle app to store and read my textbooks. However, I have attempted to research how to have multiple Kindles open on the same tablet and have been unsuccessful in finding this information. As one potential work around is creating a second desktop with a second Kindle app. I have yet to try this, but I thought asking this question here may save time by finding out if others have a more effective solution to this problem.
