Hello there,

Since a recent win 10 upgrade (about 5 or 6 days ago) I have a corrupt fileinfo.sys, which causes windows 10 (version 1703) to automatically try and repair itself, fails, then goes into a loop where you can try and load win 10 (which loops back to the same screen), go to advanced options, or turn off.

\windows\system32\logfiles\srt\SrtTrail.txt says....

Root cause found:

---------------------------

Boot critical file f:\windows\system32\drivers\fileinfo.sys is corrupt.

Repair action: File repair

Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490

Time taken = 4281 ms

I have renamed this file to something else, and now windows boots normally (so far).

Should I try and replace it with a non-corrupt one, or just ignore its absence?

Is it really critical?

Would a copy from some other PC running win 10 - ver 1703 be OK to use?

thanks
