mrstipple Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 OOOOPs!!!! I have lost the colour red on my pc. This is why people who know nothing about pc's should not mess. I have tried all my connections, turned off everything and re booted the computer still no joy. I have checked the properties on my computer and in devisce manager I have 2 exclamation marks Hard Disk Controller - secdondary IDE controller (dual fifo) the first two in the hard disk controller section look ok PCMCIA Socket - PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller How can I get everything back to normal - or as normal as I can get my old faithful machine. Many thanks in advance for the help. I do try to sort first before I ask but get nowhere. Quote

mrstipple Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 No problems on the delay. Turned the computer off in the end. It is with the monitor - I just havent got the colour red. On your list I couldnt see the red stripe. I have a packard bell monitor - as for the other you asked - pass. Sorry I am a bit slow when it comes to computers. It is rather old and outdated but suits me for now. If you let me know wher to look for the information I will get it for you. It was working great til I moved my computer. Unplugged all the wires then plugged them back in and no red. Any help much appreciated. Mrs Tipple Quote
mrstipple Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 PS The colours I can see are White yellow blue black white yellow blue black Think I might be missing more than red !!!!!! Quote
Match Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 OK first Check that the colour settings on your monitor are set right, I can't tell you how because you haven't told me what monitor you have? if they are ok next try right click on your desk top, should get a little square menu box open Click on Nvidia Control Panel look top left corner, should be a +-Display, click on the +, should expand the menu, click on Adjust desktop colour settings top right hand corner there should be a Restore Defaults, click on that. next click on the + next to Video and Television Click Adjust Video Colour settings top right hand corner there should be a Restore Defaults, click on that. the above will only be there if you have Nvidia Drivers installed. to give you the exact way to do it I need the Graphics Card Details for your machine but this should work as a rough guide Quote

Dalo Harkin Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Unplug the lead and check the insides are clean. Then reinsert the cable and make sure it is screwed in (dont overdo it or next time it will pull the retainers too) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This is a CRT monitor. http://www.made-in-china.com/image/2f0j00UBQTbohJgLcVM/15-inch-Normal-CRT-Monitor-with-SONCAP-Certificate-CMS1503-.jpg This is a TFT monitor http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_50rv3AgzGA8/R_nFZjgBeqI/AAAAAAAAB5U/LGXz3n4nh8Q/s400/LG_Flatron_L197WH_S%2B_19in_TFT_Monitor.jpg Which do you have? If it is the first link then the Red "gun" in the cathode ray tube has died. Time for a new monitor MrsTipple. Quote
mrstipple Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Many many thanks for all your replies and help. I broke the computer !!!! One of the metal pins in the connection had broken off. I know I shouldnt mess but I am a female who can't leave things alone. Managed to borrow a monitor due to lack of funds but when I am looking to purchase a new set up I will be asking for advice again. Quote

thewetcats Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 have sAme problem as lady, its not the plug thats broken [. i lost red with a nvidia driver/video card. its not the monitor because if you can access the monitor's menu on its front panel and go to display the icons they use have red in them and it shows perfectly.so its something with the nvidia. i had to reboot from scratch and was adding new programs and midi instruments and it happened on a day i added Cakewalk sonar's xt demo, an m audio midi keyboard(which when i tried to install with a diskl it warned me of possible instability,so i just plugged it in without running install and it recognized it and was ready to go,maybe it installed drivers on its own? I don't know how that works) and a freeware softsynth,so lots of possibilitiesvfor corruption.but i know it not that she had an old monitor cause mine is old too and i can only get red by pressing th4e menu button on the monitor.i hope she didn't waste money on a new one, anyway, any ideas? i put service pack 3 on the 6 hours before this happened as well(onto window xp media edition).it actually came back after turning off then on the thrid time, but then it lost red again as i went on the internet.it almost seemed like it coincided with me dragging a softsynth in sonar's multidock which tints the exact shade of blue that covers the screen when you hold on object over it.come to think of it, the white on the screen has a blue tint,so either theres a blue tint over everything making red seem black or the lack of red to mix into white leaves white with a bluish tint.
