Problems with NetScrape 7.2

Now it was a bitch to get it to work at all, musch less as well as it

is working now.

The problem was that i had loaded FireFox, which diddles operation of

both.

And as everyone knows, "uninstall" *never* removes everything.

Uninstalled both, used major surgery on the HD and the registry, and

Netscape still refused to work - with some icons showing as FireFox.

Uninstalled again, and ripped out Java runtime and Java web.

For umpteenth time, installed Netscape but used custom to prevent

installation of java stuff.

Now it works, except..

1) Cannot post a (new) message Subject "test " and body "test" (no

quotes either one without getting ALERT: NNTP error Article rejected -

test in *.test newsgroups, not here.

2) GoodSearch will not verify a known good charity.

Any ideas as how to find problem cause & fix?

Any "sniffer" programs that will log everything going in and out from

specified event to specified event?

Naturally, then i would need help in decoding the info.

Re: Problems with NetScrape 7.2

Older programs may have difficulties with some of the newer Internet

standards or server-side coding, including new SSL/TSL/IP aspects.

Not sure if this may be relevant, however, it could be an aspect.

Another could be an inefficiently cleaned registry or some corruption.

And yet another, could be an improperly setup browser... or IP config, or

firewall, or ...

Good Search may REQUIRE certain support that browser does not supply, or it

may not accept that browser.. Yahoo is heavy on JAVA and scripting so that

may be an issue.

Well, on my old, original HD, GoodSearch works perfectly well with

NetScape 7.2.

Yes, i could have missed something in the registry - but it is

extremly hard to know what to look for.

I use no firewall, and many other URLs seem to work fine - even sites

with known JavaScript.

Now, concerning use of Java runtime, i have no way of knowing if

GoodSearch needs that or not.

Could be relevant, as i purposely did not install Java runtime or

Java Web.

How could i determine that without installing those?
