I have a broadband internet connection with BSNL(Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) with an ADSL modem(connected to my LAN port.). The connection was working fine till recently when suddenly my browsers stopped connecting to websites. The system tray icon shows connected status and all other software suites(which work with online data) like AIM desktop client or windows updater are working just fine. But unfortunately none of the browsers(I tried with Flock, Safari & Internet Explorer) are being able to connect to net. I have disabled my my firewall and Antivirus hoping to isolate the problem. But it is all the same. I cannot understand whether the problem is with my ISP or my machine.

My configuration is

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

Intel D946 Motherboard

Zion DDR2 1 GB RAM

LG 40 GB HDD

Windows XP Professional

Hi

Switch off the router for a few seconds then turn it back on. Then try the websites.

Tell us if it works or not.

I had kept my entire system switched off for more than 12 hours and then tried it. But it is all the same. Should I repair or change my motherboard or modem?

You say windows update work? Yes.

Download FireFox from the pc you are using now and install it on the one that cant connect, just as another test.

Possibly a DNS issue. You can try this:

Go to START and click on RUN. In the text box, type in CMD and press the RETRUN key.

You should get a black window with white lettering ending in >.

Type in IPCONIFG /FLUSHDNS and then press the ENTER key.

Note: There's a space between ipconfig and /flushdns

Let us know the outcome.

Something else to try:

Try booting to Safe Mode with networking and see if you can access the site. Instructions follow:

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode with Networking.

* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.

* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. If F8 doesn't work try F5.

* Ensure that the Safe Mode with Networking option is selected.

* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode with networking.

* Log on with an account that has administrator priviledges, usually your own account (NOT the account named Administrator).

The screen will look different and some things won't work - like printing, and wireless networking so you need to be connected to your ISP with an Ethernet cable.
