Can I redirect Update files?

Recommended Posts

Guys, can anyone tell me if it is possible to redirect the Microsoft Update

files? I have a Windows SBS 2003 server and wish to point the automatic

updates to a different location other than C:\Windows simply for easier disk

management but can find no way of doing this. Thought I could use mounting

but you can only mount empty directories so that didn't help much. Any

suggestions?

No - what files do you mean? The $NTUNINSTALL files you'll see in your

Windows directory after you've done an update? If so, if you're running out

of space, you can move them manually to another volume & save them there for

a bit in case you ever need to uninstall an update.

Lanwench, I am trying to automate this process to reduce the administration

of each of the servers I have to administer. What I would like to hear is

that there s a tweak that can tell the Automatic Update to place the

$NTUNINSTALL folders in a different location. I am sure I am not the only

person who wishes this as I have seen so many people complaining about these

updates filling their drives.

Hello GerryA,

Easiest part is to delete the files if you have updated the machines and

you see no problems, that need the unistall of them.
