Guest future2Bunknown Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 how to clear a stuck print job? I often have jobs that just don't want to go away. Stop and restart spooling service is not acceptable. Thanks!
Guest Simon Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 RE: how to clear a stuck print job Don't just stop and restar the printer spooler, stop it, delete the job and then restart. If this doesn't work, stop the print spooler, delete the shared printer, restart the spooler and then re-add the printer. Alternatively, if you can, try bouncing the server. That being the case, restarting the server probably isn't either. If you can't delete a print job, see if this helps. At the server, open up the Printers & Faxes control panel. Go to the "File" menu and select "Server Properties". Go to the "Advanced" tab and take note of the spool folder listed there. Browse to that folder and leave that window up. You may have quite a few files in there. Now open the queue for the print job you can't delete. Take note of the size and time submitted. Now browse the spool folder for a .spl file with a similar size. Get properties on the file that is closest in size to what is displayed in the queue. Is the date and time created a match? If so, delete the .spl file AND the .shd file of the same name. See what that does. Honestly, usually I just restart the spooler. I have hundreds of print queues on my print servers, and it generally only takes a few seconds. :Bazooka-Joe
