At the Computer Shop, a while ago,and they were anxious to sell me a Track Ball Mouse.

Wondering who uses one and if they are worth the outlay.$65 AUD.

Thought I would ask first.Thanks.:)

I think its all down to personal preference, I have a £5 about $10 ?? (Not sure) optical mouse with a left/right click button and a scroll wheel, works perfect for me, does the job I want so what was the point in spending more?

The only thing I would recommend is to get an optical mouse rather than a ball one, as I think they work much better (Don't have to keep cleaning the ball and rollers :) )

Thanks Match.I have the Optical Mouse from M$. When you see something different, you wonder are they better. Guess it would save moving the mouse around all the time, but guess the ball would get dirty quickly.(Chocolate Lover):D

Tech Guy said it would prevent RSI if I was on the PC long hours.

Thanks for your input.:)

Its all just a con Doug, all you need is an optical one - unless you do alot of heavy gaming like me :D

and then you can get ones with weights in and all sorts of stuff on them.

I have a glow in the dark keyboard (for late night sessions)

and an MS mouse that cost me about £50 3 years ago

Read that link. Nonesense. Real acronyms are not made up to justify themselves. A mouse is a mouse because it looks like a mouse and for the most part had a skinny tail back then. So I am not convinced by some wacky wiki!!

Well each to their own on that. I have the Logitech "Marble" mouse. I got sick and fed up of shoving the old ordinary darn thing around in the confined space I have available. All I do now is sit my hand on it and roll the ball around with my finger, the on screen arrow goes exactly where I send it. It is optical and the ball is full of black dots so the optics work, and have something to follow, the same way as the old shove it around optical one does.

keeping the ball clean? don't have dirty hands, less need to clean the little bearing points the ball sits on.

One good thing about tracker balls such as Nev describes, is that the balls tend to be pretty big, and not held inplace except for gravity, so if they do need cleaning, it is much easier as the parts are larger and easy to get to.

And same here match, got a multi DPI mouse, on the highest setting (4000dpi) it only takes about a 1.5cm by 1.5cm space to throw the pointer from one side to the other :P, takes a while to get used to though!
