anyway to the point,

First my Spec,

QX9770 3.2 (not OC'ed)

1 GIG OCZ DDR3 (14400 not OC'ed)asus stiker II extreame Mobo

Geforce 9800 Gx2

Creative X-fi Pro sound card

im running on a Dell 3008 WTP 30" screen and at Desktop i run at 2560 X 1600

and on games i tend to run at 2560 X 1600 also,

the issue i have and i have never really found my Anser i sometimes when im playing a game sometimes i have Sorta like lag everything somthing BIG happens like for EG i will be playing L4d and a Tank Apears or a Boomber Blows up, i get like almost a second where it just sorta locks.. and the sound can sometimes loop for that second, its not inoprable .. but its annoying and when im in windows xp i if i have 2 or more transfers going at the same time lets say i have like 4 going, (like yesterday) they dont just go up by like 10 mins (so like from 14, to 24) they All go Sky Rocket! to likke 120 mins and dont Apear to copy anything, and if i try click any Progame it dose nothing and i cant click any Windows at all untill its loaded the progamme i clicked, and the only way to get it to normal is cancelin some of the transfers, i mean i know most ppl dont transfer like 5+ items at a time but i mean i didnt have a problem with my old P3 pc or my P4 pc.. my main guess would be that i only have 1 gig of ram, but at the same time a while back i had a water leek on my Water cooling, but i apeared to solve it all.

i dryed it ages ago like 4 months ago i toke it all apart and Dryed it and used a hair Dryer on the low Setting at a Distance And it Dosent appear damaged... anyway if i remember anything more that could help ill Post it.. thats it for now.

Cheers guys! i really hope you can help, Anything you think could help please post it anyway i dont care! anything to help, .. You can find it here: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Hi

Ok my second suggestion is make sure there is no dust build up on the fans and that all is working.

Do you know the temp of your CPU and GPU?

2560x1600 is a huge resolution even for that card - I used to have the same monitor and opted to sell it and get 2x 22'' ones - anyhow back to your issue.

When you say that you have removed the GPU drivers and installed the latest ones - this is my definition of uninstalling a GPU driver.

Go to nvidia.com and get the latest GPU driver.

go to add/remove and uninstall the old GPU driver

Restart

Go to C:/program files/nvidia and check that all the files eg 192.16 etc are all gone.

and then install the new driver you downloaded and restart.

Is that the process you use? you may need to get Nvidia driver cleaner and run that.

As for your issue for lag in transfers - thats down to the transfer rate of the HDD and your RAM and 1GB of RAM will NOT be helping your gaming experience either

Hope this helps

Thanks for your input Dalo,

Yeah i have tryed both, i normal use the driver cleaner anyway but i have tryed the bog Standard way Too, still no luck,

i would have guess the ram could be buggering it up, i ordered 4 gigs of OCZ platanum last night anyway just to be on the save side i will use them anyway evan if it dosent HELP my problem,

i miss not having loads of ram lol,

Yeah.. i think it may be the HDD.. i have a SDD but i stuffed it in my ps3 because it only had a 30 gig (and the SSD is 64 gig) my main intention was just more space,

it wasnt to go "MY PS3 has a SSD HARDDRIVE!!! WOOGHOO"

i was gonig to pull it out and put it back in my machine just to install the OS and a few games, and have this Drive (750) as a Data dump

but i managed to loose track of where the 'Safe' place i put it was lol...

Cheers for everyones input, ill keep you updated how it preforms when i put the 4 gigs of ram in (its DDR3 too)

Posted

oh yeah not that it matters, but i forgot, The PSU wouldnt give me this problem would it?... its a Silverstone 1.3Kwat.. cant remember the model number .. but it was about 260 when i borught it,

Cheers.

Still Lock up now and then, pluss sometimes when it locks up, and then i restart, the pc lights just Flash REALLY quick.. i mean like Flash (all the lights) evan the mobo lights, Soundcard, Grafic card.. almost like my PSU is givng the issue.. What do you think?...

i still have a hunch it might be the mobo since the water damage..

I might try another PSU and see how it goes,

anyone have any idears?.. :) cheers guys thanks for all the help so far..

CPU seems fine i think, might sit it on a PRIME 95 unless theres a better CPU tester?......

Grafic Card is fine i think

i have always wanted to ask but never fought of the right way to say it..

cheers guys

'Lock ups' are generally caused by Driver issues, or compatibility issues I would also say overheating but we've already counted this out as you say you maintain your PC well enough.

Since you have put the new RAM in, what were you doing when it locks up now?

is it just random lock ups or is it when you are putting the pc under some strain?

Hi

You can try another PSU to rule that out as a cause.

OK. News update its a lot more random now, it has locked a few times in Bios and evan when Starting windows, its defiantly a hardware issue.. no way its anything software based.

Ill cheak another PSU if i can.

Ill let you know once i have tested the PSU,

got a feeling its the motherboard tho...

but Hey, one Step at a time!

I know in post #5 you answered about CPU temps, but what do you class as load?

I also know that is quite often the case that windows applications that read the bios temps have a % of error but by comparing what Bios reads to the application can give an accurate temperature.

which brings me to the point of Temperature under load!! my version of under load is Both cores (Yes you have more but we wont talk about that) running at 100% in task manager (Transcoding Video is good), then monitor the temps A) to make sure that there is no more than a couple of degree's variance per single core B) to work out the average temp per single core

And why I say this is that you have a core sitting at 14C that goes up to 28C sitting idle in bios (I take it that's where you are getting your readings from).

I believe, given your latest installments of information, that your problem is regulating from either the PSU or your motherboard.

@Match as for under load i use Prime95 and Burnintest with the MAXUIM HEAT SETTING on,

and witch ever one gives me the hottist temps after 30 mins i post, (not running togeather oviusly,

so all 4 cores are at about 97 - 100%

@Dirtpolo

Yeah i got a hunch that its the motherbaord... i realyl do. im going to put some cash aside from work this week and see if i can get one, was looking at this board, do you think it will do the job?.. its not where as good as the one i have.. but then again mine seems broke.. So anything seems better.. ^^

i couldnt really find a decent review on it.. but it seemd OK in reviews, (wanted one for about £100 - £130)

Right - when you originally installed the OS - can you tell us EXACTLY what you did after that.

If a system is not setup correctly to start then it will never run as it should.

You are missing either a BIOS update or an updated chipset driver in my opinion

well, the bios is as far as it goes, i think its like F06 or F09 ill cheak later when it boots,

anyway once my OS was installed the first thing was my chipset drivers

then i restarted, and i insatlled my soundcard then restarteed then my grafix card and restarted then my lan drivers then restarted, then once all my drivers where on i poped my anti virus on and sorted that out, then i pluged my pc in to my network and updated it and enabled the firewall properly.

I doubt the MOBO will be causing any lag

Lags are normally created by software and not hardware, hardware that can effect lags are RAM, CPU and HDD

There have been lots of issues in the past with Quads being used on certain MOBO - but these resulted in hard crashes, not lock ups.

I would say the next thing to have a look at would be the RAM voltages and timings - adding an additional 2GB of RAM normally requires this anyway
