C:\Windows\Security\edb.log and tmp.edb

Hello,

Backups are skipping the following files on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 box:

C:\Windows\Security\edb.log

C:\Windows\Security\tmp.edb

This server happens to be hosting Exchange (it's the Front End box) but I

don't believe this is related to Exchange. I see this directory and

database/transaction logs for all of our Windows Server 2003 machines.

I'm not having any luck finding articles that explain why these files are

being skipped but from the error we get it's stated the files are unable to

be opened. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hello Danno,

These files are in use by Windows itself and with ntbackup, i assume, it

is not possible to backup open files. You have to use another software, which

can backup open files like BackupExec from Symantec.

Best regards

Hi Dear,

I'm using TSM Backup, but these files are missing every time. Will

you please let me know whether these files can be excluded and will have no

problem while Restoring system from Backup ?

Many Thanks.
