DirtyPolo Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 What exactly do you mean you wanted to uninstall? You said you use Firefox, this is the only program involved or did I misread? Can you take us through a step by step list of what you do and what goes wrong, to make it clearer for us to understand whats wrong and how to resolve it. thanks. DirtyPolo Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 (edited) Do you this star? And are you referring to Microsoft Internet Explorer? I'm afraid I still don't fully understand. I am confused, as you say about MSN Explorer, which is a seperate paid for browser all together, like IE and FF. RandyL Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hi; MSN Explorer browswer is quite old and rarely was it used. Your post itarts with FireFox browser. You also said it started with Internet Explorer 6. Internet Explorer 7 has been around for years. Internet Explorer 8 is now availabe for Windows XP and Vista. Can you help us out and let us know which browser you are using? It sounds to me like you may also be talking about MSN/Hotmail which is web based. Sorry about all the questions but the team and the members really need to understand what the issues are and what you have. Unfortunately this may take some time but we will try our best anyway. The reason I mentioned I.E.6 (Didnt like 7?) and Firefox which I have just aquired is that I thought it would be useful for you to tell me what to do.. BUT.. it is NOT the problem.. The problem is with MSN and not IE. I have a hotmail account.. and use it as my email.. so I use msn as a fav holder as well.. it is ONLY the MSN favs that dont work... Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Ah, as a user of MSN Explorer at one time, a long time ago mind, I am beginning to understand. Internet Explorer took over in my case, as the main browser and I abandoned MSN Explorer in favour of it. I later took on Firefox, and that is now my main browser of choice. However, because you are seeing a fault with MSN Explorer, you tried to uninstall it in order to try reinstalling as a possible fix. am I right so far? If so, unfortunately MSN Explorer is an integral part of Windows and cannot be removed, so you won't find it in the add/remove programs box. As far as I know, though others like Randy may know better, MSN Explorer has no support from Microsoft now, and the only thing I can suggest is to use other methods to save the pages you want. The only other thing being a last resort though, would be to use (if you have them) the system recovery disks, but that would wipe everything you have, right back to original factory settings. Also with no real guarantee it would fix your problem. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. RandyL Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 As Plastic Nev pointed out MSN Explorer is not supported any longer. For browser security reasons you're better off not using it. If I remember right it can be unchecked in the Windows Components off add/remove but not uninstalled there. Although it can be uninstalled I won't recomend that. If you have then as pointed out a reinstall of Windows might be needed to get back in a functioning manner. I would also suggest going back to IE7 for a more secure browser then IE6. As per your files and settings you should set up a new User Account for yourself and put a password on it. Quote We are all members helping other members.
