danielhowitt Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hi all I wonder if you could help. I have a Sata drive installed on my PC which was working fine up until recently, when the PC is booting up before windows loads (XP) I get the following message 'No array is defined' and then when windows does load, I cannot see it in 'My Computer' and neither can i see it when I into 'Disk Management' in the 'Computer Management' thing. Can anyone suggest a way of restoring the hard drive without losing the data on it? Thanks Daniel Howitt Quote
Tootech Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hi Dan, The RAID warning message is confusing - do you use RAID? Have you looked in the BIOS to see if your drive is identified there? Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Sounds like the RAID controller is enabled in BIOS and you have no drives attached to it. The screen you see is the RAID setup screen for configuring the RAID. Go into BIOS and disable . Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Plastic Nev Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Rather than disable the raid set up, it is obviously not seeing the SATA drive at start up, this can be something simple such as a connection gone loose or dirty. Turn off the machine, remove the cover and disconnect the SATA connection plug and then replace it, both on the drive and the motherboard, this will hopefully wipe the connection pins clean of any oxide or other causes of poor connection. Replace the cover and try it again. If still no joy then it may well be the drive has died. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. danielhowitt Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Hi Sorry its taken so long for me to reply. When I first installed the hard drive I already had an existing ata hard drive with xp on it, so the sata is my second hard drive and I didnt (still dont really know how) to setup raid. However raid was the default in my motherboards bios and so I managed to do it with out much knowledge into how to do it. Anyway now when I have raid enabled it does as I described below. But if I disable raid in the bios, instead of it coming up with 'No array is defined' - it detects that I have a sata drive and gives the correct size of it. However when windows loads it again does not show up in my computer and neither does it show up in 'Disk Management'. Is the hard drive dead or is there a way of bringing it back to life? All I want is the data of it really :-( any ideas? Cheers! Quote
