WRT54GS router

hi all, this is my first thread so please be understanding.

 

i have linksys WRT54GS router into which i have my pc(os = xp pro, AMD dual core 5200, 2 gig ram) and a xbox wired into. my lad(the xbox) says he gets lagging and cannot "host" games. i have 10mb download, from virgin, and a 0.5mb upload( should be 1.5mb according to virgin!) i regulary do speed tests and get 9.5mb download and only 0.5mb uploads so my queries are -

 

1. would the upload speed effect the xbox? if so how do i change it?

2. i have been into QoS and specified high priority to the xbox, given the MAC address and router port its using, but i have more options of gaming ports( optimal gaming applications) what are these? should i assign them? and if so how?

3. also tried to find a firmware upgrade for the router, thinking that might improve things? but cannot, typed in my model and it showed a completely different product it also didn't show my version (v.7)

 

i hope someone can make sense of this, is any more info needed?

You cannot change the upload speed - its limited and set by your provider.

If the Xbox is wired into the router you normally dont have to set up any ports.

Just make sure that the Firewall you are using is allowing the XBOX full access to the network

would that be the router firewall? how do you do a "screen grab" then i could show you the options i have. Edited April 7, 2009 by sven

Press Print Screen then open paint or similar program and click on edit then paste.
