Match Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Hi Kevh rumours seem to indicate that Windows 7 is to be released to the Manufacturers around Oct 09, and then shortly after for general retail outlets. It should be interesting as to how it actually turns out I've spoke to 3 people that have tried the Beta, One loves it and cant wait, One says is it really worth the money to upgrade and our own Dalo here who is definitely against it. But until it is released and people start using it, loks like we will just all be left guessing. p.s. if you see something you want to post a comment on, feel free as we get tired of arguing amongst ourselves and other peoples input is always appreciated Quote
kevh Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 What does Dalo find so bad about it ?? From what ive read most reviews seem very positive compared to Vista.:confused2: Also am i right in saying that to go from Vista to Win7 is like an update on top rather than a new install (wiping the drive first)? Quote Home Pc: Intel i5 - 4460 3.20 ghz 8gb Kingston Hyper-X Fury Dual-DDR3 1600MHz Windows 10 64bit HomeEVGA 960 GTX SSC 2Gb GDDR 5 DX12Corsair VS430watt PSU250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD24" Benq Led screen Work Pc: Quad Q9550 2.83ghz4gb XMS2 DDR2 800mhzAsus P5QL Mobo Windows 7 PremiumPalit GTS250 1GB ddr3 450watt FSP PSU640Gb WD Caviar Blue HD22" Samsung Lcd (1680x1050)
RandyL Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I love Vista. I hate Vista. There is good and bad with every change. No matter what it is I intend to get Windows 7 at some point in time. Why? Because I have to keep up with the times. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Dalo Harkin Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 What does Dalo find so bad about it ?? From what ive read most reviews seem very positive compared to Vista.:confused2: Also am i right in saying that to go from Vista to Win7 is like an update on top rather than a new install (wiping the drive first)? Where to start lol I sometimes (normally OS) get heavily involved in the BETA testing and in all fairness its not as good as I expected. It has far too many errors and underlying issues, as you mentioned its just a slightly different version of Vista with some additions. Vista Beta was a disaster, Vista RC1 was shocking - RC2 was just a totally transformed version of the Beta and RC1, that impressed me as they had a lot of time to make changes and get it right. Windows 7 Hmm not convinced Beta stages were only 2 months ago and as you say its being released (if on time) in the 3rd quarter And the Windows i7 Hardware is more of a debate for me. My mate has an i7 setup and mine wipes the floor with it at a fraction of the cost :D Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
kevh Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hi Dalo , ill cancel my new i7 setup now i think :D So by the time Win7 RC2 comes out should be pretty cool then ;) Plus with it being very similar to Vista should be less initial probs i assume :) Cheers Kev  Quote Home Pc: Intel i5 - 4460 3.20 ghz 8gb Kingston Hyper-X Fury Dual-DDR3 1600MHz Windows 10 64bit HomeEVGA 960 GTX SSC 2Gb GDDR 5 DX12Corsair VS430watt PSU250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD24" Benq Led screen Work Pc: Quad Q9550 2.83ghz4gb XMS2 DDR2 800mhzAsus P5QL Mobo Windows 7 PremiumPalit GTS250 1GB ddr3 450watt FSP PSU640Gb WD Caviar Blue HD22" Samsung Lcd (1680x1050)
Dalo Harkin Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 In all honesty the hardware 'supposedly needed' for Windows 7 is not really needed for windows 7 if you get what I mean, hardware develops much faster than software and by the time Windows 7 is actually at a stage Vista is now - they will be working on something else! Save your money and get an awesome Vista Quad rig :) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Match Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Save your money and get an awesome Vista Quad rig working on it :) now I have my CPU cooling sorted and running nicely at 3 Ghz, Friday I should get another two gig of RAM, all I want then is the Phenom II Quad cores to drop in price :p but will probably get to add another HDD and up grade my DVD R/W by thenhttp://extremetechsupport.com/forum/../images/smilies/smile.gifhttp://extremetechsupport.com/forum/../images/smilies/smile.gif Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 So, having read all of the above, what we are really saying is that the much hyped windows 7, is nothing more than a glorified Vista, service pack 3 :( I will save my dosh untill these two versions of XP I have, and the two machines they are on, have died without chance of recovery. Mind you if I get the spare cash, one of the bigger laptops with Vista might tempt me. By bigger I mean more HD space, higher spec CPU, etc. and trade in the present laptop. wellies Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I loaded the beta version and now RC1 on a spare partition on a dual-boot with XP. The computer is about 7 years old and contains.. GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. 3Ghz hyper-threading processor. 1.5GB of RAM. Not bad but by no means top specification now. Both releases of Windows 7 have run pretty well on it. If I had Vista and a newer computer, I probably wouldn't upgrade to Windows 7 when the final version is released but since this is an older computer running XP, I'll consider getting a new one when Windows 7 is fully available. The time will be about right for a new computer by then. I'll want to have my own Windows 7 installation disk rather than get a computer with Windows 7 already installed and a recovery disk.
