Will Win98SE run on a P4 1.8GHz computer?

Hi,

I have a chance to buy an old IBM NetVista Pentiuum 4, 1.8 GHZ,

i845(Brookdale) computer.

I want to buy this to play older games but I'm wondering if this

computer will run Windows 98SE. As I understand, later computers, or is

it just chipsets, may not run Windows 98SE.

Thanks for any advice,

Peter K.

The main general problem is CPU speed, but Win98

ought to run well on this PC. If you contemplate

spending more money, consider RAM and video

adaptor (for games performance.)

Thanks for the advice Don. I bought the computer and will see in the

next few days how it goes.

I've had no problems whatsoever running 98SE on a P4 1.7 GHz system.

Win98SE seems to run OK on anything with the following caveats:

1) With 1Gbyte RAM or less: full video capability is easy.

2) More than 1Gbyte to 2Gbytes RAM: 16 colors, 640 by 480 is the only

video resolution possible; some (text) parameter needs fiddling to

otherwise run and use all RAM OK.

Thanks Robert,

I have the system running now and it works well.

I wish I had known about 2) as I had tried to dual boot my

present system (P4, WinXP and 2GB) and could only get 640 x 480.

I assumed I had incorrectly set up the dual boot and eliminated it. Now

things are much clearer.

Thanks again,

Peter K.
