So I'm here in LA, it's my first time in the country. I've seen US TV shows before, they're fine. But it's the other stuff, like the News blocks, the adverts and interstitals and idents; these are the things that leave the lasting impression.

...every other advert is for a prescription drug full of middle-aged women with "Fibromialga", bladder control issues, heart complaints. All with the "Ask your doctor why you need this drug to feel normal" line.

At times it's hard to tell if things are a parody or satire of themselves or not. I can't go 30 seconds without rolling my eyes.

Then there's the news. What's the point of "eyewitness news"? All the "eyewitnesses" are passers-by giving stock answers to awful "what's your opinion of..." questions that anyone would give. And of course, they send out reporters to "the scene" (e.g. where that 2nd grader was drinking whisky from his school desk) for a 10-second soundbite.

Then there's all those human interest stories, this isn't news, it's tripe.

Not saying UK TV is better, but at least we don't have exploitive health insurance adverts, (probably unethical) prescription medication adverts, or heck... any adverts.

Maybe I'm just homesick, but how do you guys stand it?
