Has anyone else seen this yet?

A rather strange and straight looking figure walked on stage, with hair like a mentally deranged floor mop.

She stood there and spoke, immediately a warm and humorous personality shone through, and then she sang.

That was music, I need say no more.

Well done Susan Boyle.

Was watching the Masters Tournament from the States when I happened to click the remote only to find another silly Simon Cowel talent contest. I heard this equally silly looking person announce a personal favorite from Les Miserables. I decided to give it a listen and have a laugh. Laugh was on me. (As it so often is) That was worthy of a cast album. I would pay to hear her sing again.

It has recently been found Susan did a charity recording of "Cry me a River" some ten years ago. Her voice then should have given someone a clue as to her talent. She should have been "discovered" years ago.

Are we hearing the true voice of the hopeful contestants? I'm not so sure now. I like talent shows but the recent highlighting of voice auto-tuning has put me off watching The X-Factor.

 

The emotional hype and noisiness of the show almost put me off watching it. The voice auto-tuning talk has now tipped the balance. I'll be watching something else until I'm convinced auto-tuning isn't being used.

I think in the case of young Jackie, auto tuning was not being used, if it had, the slight off pitch near the end would have been hidden, listen carefully to the last words as she goes up the scale. Then again I am a musician and spotted the slightly out of tune note, others may not hear it.

this of course does not detract from such a superb performance, even top fully trained singers will hit a bad one now and then.

After her performance there was some suggestion of lip syncing. That was both denied and dispelled when she won her group. While there does appear to be a bit of an oddity in the way her mouth appears when she forms her notes she quickly demonstrated the truth. This little girl is a star!
