Tootech Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hi old tymer, Just been reading through it all again - have we missed anything?  We've confirmed just about everything, except the wireless adapter status. Sometimes after a clean up a network connection does need tinkering with, and after all the checks we have done I can't quite put my finger on what is wrong. Even down to whether or not the wireless adapter is actually showing up somewhere, but not where we expect. I've had a look around the BT site - is this the wireless adapter you have? BT.com | BT Voyager ADSL If it is, here is the driver download page BT.com | BT Voyager ADSL
old tymer Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Hi, sorry if your heads hurting as much as mine. I followed the link and it took me down the same path as my installation cd. Unfortunately i don`t know how to copy/post the box that comes up when i try a re install. Are you able to advise?
RandyL Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 BT Voyager 1055 drivers This may be of interest also. I see there is diagnostic software download there. old tymer Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 When i try the , the installation shield asks me do i want to remove all items. Do you think this means the drivers are already there?
Tootech Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Do you think this means the drivers are already there Yes. Sometimes drivers become corrupt, and the only way to check is to uninstall them and reinstall the newest version. asks me do i want to remove all items Does all items mean your whole BT installation? Theres alot installed if I remember rightly. BT Yahoo browser, BT Desktop Help, BT Wireless Manager to name a few. Please be careful at this point, only uninstall the wireless adapter drivers. Then unplug the wireless adapter. Reboot, run the new driver installer and plug in the adapter when told to by the installer. I'm wondering now you have got this far if it may be worthwhile calling the BT team, and have them talk you through it over the phone. Its difficult to know exactly what is installed, and removing the wrong software may make things worse. If you are happy, we'll carry on.
old tymer Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Gone thru the process with the disc. "installation completed successfully" Still no connection or icon? I must be getting past help!!!
Tootech Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Ok, as far as I can see you've done everything you should and its still not working. Its possible the adapter is faulty. Its also possible we are missing something, so we need to know what network connections you have, and what network devices are showing in the device manager. Can you now go back to your Control Panel, and then Over to Network Connections. Can you take a screenshot of your network connections, and post it. Also, go back to Device Manager and take a screenshot of that too, and post it.
old tymer Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Sorry but have never done this before. Have managed to work out how to do screenshot but not how to post.
maynardvdm Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Hi To post you need to attach the files by clicking on Manage Attachments or You can upload them to a site like Photobucket and then you copy the IMG Code and paste it here. This is what i use Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket Either way will work.   We are all members helping other members. Tootech Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Hi old tymer, Thanks for the screenshot, it shows that you have no wireless adapter connected.  It seems that the USB adapter may have failed. Can you do the same thing with the Network Connections screen - as described in my last post - we need a screenshot. If there is no wireless connection showing, and you have the adapter plugged in, my guess is that the adapter has failed in some way. That will be the point you have to ring BT and get them to check it out. They will replace it if they agree.
Tootech Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Ok, that confirms everything else. Network Connections shows no wireless device attached. Device Manager shows no faulty devices, or USB ports. New drivers have been installed, no change. My guess is that the wireless adapter is faulty. You need to talk to BT now. They may be able to diagnose it over the phone and send you out a new USB adapter.
old tymer Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Thanks for your help we are Finally getting somewhere. Spoke to BT. on re install at the point where the screen asks you to plug in the adapter, the screen then freezes. From this information he was able to conclude that the adaptor is caput!!! As it is over 12 mnts old i have to replace myself. Any recommendations for a replacement? This one has lasted about 15mnths. Once again many thanks for your assistance thus far.
Tootech Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) Phew, we are getting somewhere :) I like Zyxel G-202's, they have always been reliable. ZyXEL G-202 Wireless 54Mbps USB Adapter - Misco.co.uk ZyXEL G-202 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB Adaptor +: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo Netgear adapters also have been reliable. Netgear WG111 Wireless-G USB Adapter - Ebuyer You could consider buying another from BT - my only thought is that if you have problems setting up your wireless and ring BT for help, they may decline if you don't use their equipment.  If that's not a problem for you then great. old tymer Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Just been chatting to a friend who can supply me with a netgear f.o.c. Result!!! So now back to my original problems , i will re try the eset scanner.
old tymer Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Eset scanner still not fully downloading? Any offers?
Plastic Nev Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Hi Oldtymer, the Eset scanner, are you using Internet explorer to download and run it? it will not work with Firefox or other browsers, it must be Internet explorer.  Secondly, is it actually getting to start scanning but then seems to freeze? That is normal as far as I can see, It stops on a file it has just scanned, then it would appear to download a bit more from the net, so seems to freeze while it is doing so, consequently it does take some time to do a full scan. As a trial I ran it and it took two hours twenty minutes to complete. Fortunately found nothing I am glad to say. So please try again, best perhaps early morning when the internet isn't quite as busy. Let us know how you get on. Need help with your computer problems?
