Guest Laphan Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Hi All I support a number of schools and we have just installed a Win2k3 server with AD infrastructure at one of them. Everything was fine apart from one thing, added a laptop to the domain and then realised that even though the laptop was running WinXP Professional SP2, the file structure of the HD is FAT32 and not NTFS. I know that I need to do the convert command to change the HD from FAT32 to NTFS, but is there any adverse affects adding the laptop to the domain before the conversion? Should I put the laptop back to a workgroup and then re-add it to the domain after conversion? Thanks

Guest Meinolf Weber Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Re: Laptop not NTFS before being added to domain Hello Laphan, No, has no effect to convert the filesystem as a domain member. If you are not sure, just remove the network cable before, logon as local administrator, convert, reboot, see if everything is fine and reconnect the machine to the network. Also a good idea will be, to make backup from the important data BEFORE converting. Guest Nagangouda Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 RE: Laptop not NTFS before being added to domain no need to disjoin domain again rejoin only thing before converting you take of backup of userdata thats it, conversion of file system from FAT32 to NTFS will not any effect on your laptop. enjoy with NTFS(Disk Quota,Excryption,Volume Shadow Copy(Server Side) Regards Nagangouda "Laphan" wrote: > Hi All > > I support a number of schools and we have just installed a Win2k3 server > with AD infrastructure at one of them. > > Everything was fine apart from one thing, added a laptop to the domain and > then realised that even though the laptop was running WinXP Professional > SP2, the file structure of the HD is FAT32 and not NTFS. > > I know that I need to do the convert command to change the HD from FAT32 to > NTFS, but is there any adverse affects adding the laptop to the domain > before the conversion? > > Should I put the laptop back to a workgroup and then re-add it to the domain > after conversion? > > Thanks > > >
