Guest paulreims@gmail.com Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Hello, I have the problem that, after moving machines on client side from the domain back to a workgroup, they still appear in the Active Directory; so they seem not to be correctly taken of the domain. First I thought that it would be a problem of access rights on a given container, but even when using the domain-admin account on the client machine to configure the machine to be part of a workgroup, it is still not correctly deleted from the domain... In the event-log, I do not see any error. Any idea what could be the problem? Thank you very much in advance Best regards Paul reims
Guest Masterplan Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 RE: machines not correctly deleted from domain If your computer was a member of a domain, Windows prompts you for the user name and password of an account with permission to delete the computer account from the domain. If the account you provide does not have permission to remove the computer account from the domain, the computer is disjoined from the domain and moved to the workgroup, but the computer account is left in place on the domain. This may prevent Kerberos authentication to a computer with the same NetBIOS name joined to a different domain within the same forest. So, check if your domain admin have the right to delete the computer object. Have a nice day! Guest paulreims@gmail.com Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Re: machines not correctly deleted from domain Hello, what I do is very simple: In the system properties, I affect the machin, which is currently member of the domain, again to a workgroup, but it still appears in the Active Directory Users and computers console and in the registry of the machine, I still have some entries pointing to the domain (It is not a problem of user rights, since when doing it as domain admin, I have the same problem). I do not see any error message in the event log, neither on the machine, neither on the domain controller. Guest Jorge Silva Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Re: machines not correctly deleted from domain The fact that the computer object remains in the AD is normal and by design, that doesn't mean that the computer is member of the AD, you'll noitice that after you remove the computer from the AD you no longer have the dropbox for domain selection. -- I hope that the information above helps you.
