Does Visual Studio 2008 have more optimization methods than Visual Studio 2005?

Starting on page 62, there is a table of optimization methods that different compilers support. If anyone from the Visual Studio team is on here, does Visual Studio 2008 make improvements over Visual Studio 2005 that we would see in that table and if possible, would you specify a few of them?

 

Also, I was looking through the table and a+a+a+a = a*4 caught my curiousity as I noticed that it could be further optimized to a
