I looked at > the reasons for installation and I am not experiencing any of the > items this was intended to fix. The patch was to protect IE from various possible malicious exploits so I'm pleased to read that you feel you have experienced none but that's not a reason for not installing the patch. However I find it odd that KB942615 wasn't offered as I think it should have been offered to all PCs running either XP SP2 or Vista but not to those running beta software such as XP SP3 or Vista SP1. If installed it should appear in Add/Remove Programs if you have "show updates" checked, and, as David mentioned, the uninstall files should either be in the folder C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB942615$ if you are running IE6 or C:\WINDOWS\ie7updates\KB942615-IE7 if running IE7. As for deleting the $NtUninstallKBXXXXX$... folders and their contents this very much depends on whether you think you will ever want to uninstall the associated patch, if not then they can be safely deleted although I would strongly recommend that you don't delete the uninstall files for any patch installed in say the last two months "just in case". -- Mike Maltby mike.maltby@gmail.com Heirloom <nobodyhome@noplacelike.hom> wrote: > Odd, I looked with Belarc and that update does not appear on my > machine. Guest Heirloom Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Re: Merry Christmas Thanks Dave!! Yeah, I knew about the compression making them show blue. Guest Heirloom Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Re: Merry Christmas Whoa! Stop the show! Mike, Dave....what is this??? I just went into Windows Explorer for the house cleaning and the first file in J:\Windows is $hg_mig$ . It is not compressed (not blue). I looked at it and it contains all the KB's dl'd in 2007, nothing more. Surprisingly, this $hg_mig$ folder contains the KB942612-IE7 !!! Only six of the files have the '-IE7' suffix and none of them are the uninstall files. Again, what is this? Guest Mike M Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Re: Merry Christmas How about checking the box in Add/Remove that says "show updates" (top right)? Either that or read my posts where I have already mentioned this. <vbg> Since you have IE7 installed KB942615 should appear as: "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB942615)" indented below "Windows Internet Explorer 7 - Software Updates" but only if you have "show updates" checked at top right and to the left of "Sort by". -- Mike Heirloom <nobodyhome@noplacelike.hom> wrote: > Lucky you, I have absolutely none showing in Add/Remove!!! > Heirloom, old and must seek sustinence
Guest Heirloom Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Re: Merry Christmas Goodness, I can sure tell I didn't get enough sleep last night! (about to fall asleep now) Mike, you have the patience of Job, thanks for putting up with the likes of me. You are most correct in all points, as usual. I did check the 'show updates', but, the first time it did not work...when I scrolled the list, the checkmark was removed....so, I thought the files were not there. I went back, did it again and this time, they all appeared. And, I do have an ie7 Windows folder in blue and an ie7uninstall folder, as well. All is good.
