operating system not found

Have an Amilo pa 2585 and after kids and mates had messed around with it I have switched it on only to b told on screen that no operating system was found! Needless to say the kids said they did nothing and has the laptop was only bought in november I am having a breakdown.

lol this sounds like they have formatted the disk, do you get a black screen and a 'C:\' prompt?

 

the other thing they may have done is change the boot drive in the Bios, do you know how to check for that first?

I doubt the kids have formatted the hard drive as it's impossible to do so on an active primary partition.

 

Sounds to me like the hard drive has died.

 

Do you get this message immediately on boot up Jill?

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase factory recovery cds for the above laptop? No operating system found on machine so I was hoping recovery cds would help:eek:

When the pc starts, press Del or F2 to enter the BIOS.

Check under the 1st or second heading for Boot order and make sure Hard drive is the 1st one.

Entered bios. Hard disc is ist choice.still no operating system found

1 of 2 things here:

 

either the Hard disk is dead or there is nothing on it.

 

Do you have any Windows disks?

Have a windows xp disc and when I load it it goes so far and then I get error message Stop: oxoooooo8E [0XOOOOOO5,OXF741BC83,OXF6FE5800,OXOOOOOOOO]

What exactly does it say on that disk you have Jill?

I 've tried to find a manual for your system, to work out if you have a recovery partition.

 

The model number you've given isn't listed - can you double check it.

"For re-installation of XP on an Amilo PC only"

Nope. Its one I found in my desk. It's a copy my brother made along with a reg code.

What you have unfortunately is a pirated copy of XP and is therefore illegal and we cannot offer further help with regard to that.

 

What you need to do now though is obtain a proper fully licensed copy of XP from a reputable outlet and install that.

Oops I must apologise that I didn't notice you had Vista previously, yes obtain Vista Basic or Home.

 

Finally As Tootech has mentioned that particular model (PA2585) does not seem to exist in the Amilo range, please make sure you have the correct number and get back to us.

 

Is it actually the PA2548?

Many thanks for your help. My laptop is an Amilo Pa 2548. I am wondering if it would not be better just to try and get hold of the factory recovery disc's as After many attempts on purchase I was unable to make my own following manuel instructions. Have tried to get in touch with fujitsu but no joy as yet.

Recovery disks will only work if there is an operating system there to begin with Jill.

 

It's impossible to determine if the recovery partition has been erased also.

 

Without making recovery disks at that time you may have to obtain a new set of disks from Fujitsu for that laptop which will cost.
