jill Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Have an Amilo pa 2585 and after kids and mates had messed around with it I have switched it on only to b told on screen that no operating system was found! Needless to say the kids said they did nothing and has the laptop was only bought in november I am having a breakdown. Quote
Match Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 lol this sounds like they have formatted the disk, do you get a black screen and a 'C:\' prompt? the other thing they may have done is change the boot drive in the Bios, do you know how to check for that first? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I doubt the kids have formatted the hard drive as it's impossible to do so on an active primary partition. Sounds to me like the hard drive has died. Do you get this message immediately on boot up Jill? Quote
jill Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 operating system not found Hi, When I switch system on it immediatly says no operating system found. Quote
jill Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Amilo Pa 2458 Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase factory recovery cds for the above laptop? No operating system found on machine so I was hoping recovery cds would help:eek: Quote
maynardvdm Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 When the pc starts, press Del or F2 to enter the BIOS. Check under the 1st or second heading for Boot order and make sure Hard drive is the 1st one. Quote We are all members helping other members. maynardvdm Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Ok 1 of 2 things here: either the Hard disk is dead or there is nothing on it. Do you have any Windows disks? Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 What exactly does it say on that disk you have Jill? Quote
Tootech Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I 've tried to find a manual for your system, to work out if you have a recovery partition. The model number you've given isn't listed - can you double check it. If you follow the link below, you'll see what I mean support manuals.html Fujitsu Siemens Computers Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Does it also say something along the lines of; "For re-installation of XP on an Amilo PC only" Quote
jill Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Nope. Its one I found in my desk. It's a copy my brother made along with a reg code. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Oh dear Jill What you have unfortunately is a pirated copy of XP and is therefore illegal and we cannot offer further help with regard to that. What you need to do now though is obtain a proper fully licensed copy of XP from a reputable outlet and install that. We will be happy to assist you when you have done so. Quote
jill Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Going to computer shop now. Do I have to buy windows xp or can I buy vista Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Oops I must apologise that I didn't notice you had Vista previously, yes obtain Vista Basic or Home. Finally As Tootech has mentioned that particular model (PA2585) does not seem to exist in the Amilo range, please make sure you have the correct number and get back to us. Is it actually the PA2548? Quote
jill Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 Many thanks for your help. My laptop is an Amilo Pa 2548. I am wondering if it would not be better just to try and get hold of the factory recovery disc's as After many attempts on purchase I was unable to make my own following manuel instructions. Have tried to get in touch with fujitsu but no joy as yet. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Ok Recovery disks will only work if there is an operating system there to begin with Jill. It's impossible to determine if the recovery partition has been erased also. Without making recovery disks at that time you may have to obtain a new set of disks from Fujitsu for that laptop which will cost. Quote
