Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am new to Using Terminal Server and have a question about connecting a

Dell 1720 to the local Wyse S90 ThinClient.

I have everything running perfectly! All apps are running great and my

remote location Wyse S90 Terminals are all connecting to my server via RDP

beautifully. I am nearing the end of this installation and I need to add a

few local printers to some of the Wyse S90 WinTerms. What are the necessary

steps to take to add these local printers (Dell 1720) and will I be able to

have these local printers be the default for those that will also have a

network printer available?

Thank you very much for any help you may be able to provide.

Configure the printer on the thin client and install the driver on the

terminal server. After installing the driver on the server the printer

appears in the session.

Bart,

Being that the Thin Client is running XP Embedded, do I need to configure it

to run on the XP side of things first and then install it on the server?

Also, when I install it on the server I tell it to install on the local

printer port?

Thank you for the posting. That seems to easy?

First install the printer on the Thin Client, afterwards install the

printerdriver on the server. When all is done, the printer will be loaded in

the session when connecting to the server.

Bart,

Tried doing that again as I did before but it will not print. I get a

printer error in the RDP session after trying to print a test page but

nothing in event viewer.

I also added the local printer to the server and installed the print drivers

for it. Any other ideas?

Until recently, Dell printers were known to be mostly TS

incompatible and showing the behaviour you describe. However,

here's an article in eWeek from last month, which states that Dell

is starting to certify its printers to work under TS, so maybe

there's still hope:-).

Are you using the latest printer drivers?

RE: Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

Thank you Vera! Do you have any ideas on how to get this printer to print? I

added it as a local printer on the TS server, installed both 32-bit and

64-bit drivers and It still will not print. This person needs a local printer

and I do not know what else to do other than have him print to the network

printer which is accpeted most of the time but there are instances where he

needs to print locally. Unless he just keeps his existing XP machine and does

not use the Wyse WinTerminal.

Any thoughts?

Thank you kindly!

RE: Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

64-bit? So your server runs 64, meaning it *must* use a 64-bit

driver?

Check with Dell if their 64-bit printer driver is certified for TS,

and if it isn't (which I suspect), then you have 2 choices:

a) ditch the printer and buy a TS compatible printer

b) buy a 3rd party "driver-free" printing solution. If you must

support many different printer models, this is most likely the best

solution, especially on x64 systems.

RE: Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

Try using a default HP printer driver (laserjet/deskjet), most of the times

this works with unsupported printers

RE: Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

I will give it a shot and let you know what happens. Also, according to Dell,

this is compatible wtih TS and more importantly the x64 version but it is not

working for whatever reason.

RE: Add a locla printer to Wyse S90

I tried the HP Laser Jet 2100. TS x64 found it just and added it. I also

added it to my Windows Xp Embedded image and the test page prints out fine

from the Wyse WinTerm with XPe but it still will not print when I RDP into

the Terminal Server. The printer shows up just fine but it will not print. I

do not receive any type of error on TS either.

Any other thoughts? This is driving me nuts and I have my conversion to the

new network tomorrow. Everything else runs like a TOP but this stupid

printing issue.

ARGHHHHH
