Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Ok Paula we need to know a little more about you machine ie CPU size and the amount of memory you have. This information can be viewed by right clicking on My Computer and choosing Properties. An example might state 1.6MHZ Celeron and 512MB of RAM. Is this a laptop or a desktop machine? Also you really must get Service Pack 3 for XP. Please get back to us with this information. Quote
pauline5650 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 information hi i have a desktop pc and it says 2.67ghz & 192 ram thankyou paula Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Ok the amount of physical RAM you have Paula is very small indeed and needs at least tripling. It also sounds like you have a lot of programs running on startup which could do with editing. Do you clean out your temporary internet files on a regular basis? Have you had the side off the pc and given it a good clean out lately with a can of compressed air, don't go in with the hoover please. Quote
pauline5650 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 slow pc i do my tempory files i have done a defrag & done a disk clean up. theres a few programes in my add and remove as well but they wont unistall it comes up cant open install log. i will open the pc and give it a clean see if that works i havent done it before. thankyou paula Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Obviously make sure the power is off Paula, stupid statement I know but it's been known to happen. Also afterwards get all windows updates, then get back to us. Quote
maynardvdm Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Hi Yes like Wolfey said that is very little RAM, I would suggest getting at least 512Mb RAM. Quote We are all members helping other members. pauline5650 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 hi hi ive cleaned out the pc, and done updates and downloaded the service pack 3, but it is still the same,i know i need a bigger ram but cant afford a new pc at the moment. is it possible to restore pc to factory settings if so how thankyou paula Quote
RandyL Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 RAM is very cheap to add and easy to do. Go to the Crucial site and you can find out what you need and how much it costs. Depending on the make, model and number of your PC you can take it back to factory settings via a recovery partion or by any disks that came with it. But the bottom line is you will still need more memory to do much with it. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
