Plastic Nev Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Following on from a thread elsewhere, we all have made some duff or poor quality CD or DVD disks that are now useless, so what can be done with them? Some have said use them as coasters for drinks to sit on. However I had a bad experience doing that, the liquid (coffee) spilled and stuck it hard down to the worktop. So has anyone got a novel or different use for a duff CD? No prizes as such, but a congratulations or very well done will be issued for the best use. Quote Need help with your computer problems? DSTM Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Good idea Nev.There must be a clever use, for them. Have to put my thinking cap on. Can't believe, how many I have wasted, trying to burn CD's:D Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
Match Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 just following along the same lines, I have in my possession around 500 black vinyl LP's, inherited from a house attick, I was just going to take them down the tip, but have also considered other uses, like plant pots and no they arn't worth selling and yes they are all exactly the same. any suggestions welcome ;) or anyone want to lend me an air rifle :) Quote
Tootech Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Make em into a scarecrow Nev. Simply get yourself some sturdy twigs, stick them together with your favourite glue, to make them look like a tree. Steal some string from some kind persons sewing box and cut it into lengths of 20cm. Tie one end to a CD, the other to the twig tree. Repeat 20 times and fix securely in the garden. Voila one scarecrow. Here's an example CD Scarecrow - stage one | daveharte.com If you are very clever you could get rid of all your Abba CD's at once :) Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 a good idea for those with a garden or bigger plot of land for growing things Tootech. The old vinyl records soften at fairly low temperatures so hot water will allow you to mould them to any odd shape, Match. However CDs are made of tougher stuff and won't normally soften until you get to dangerous temperatures, so moulding them is out of the question. The only use I can think of is as a packing under a wobbly table leg. Any more ideas folks? Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here. Goku Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 You could tie them in a shape and make a spectrum wall hanging. Or if you have enough of them, then tie about 100 CDs in a circular shape and stick a pole through the center most one. That could act for you as an umbrella. :D -- Goku Quote
maynardvdm Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Take a soccer ball and stick the cd's on and you will have a disco ball :D Quote We are all members helping other members. I4n Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Well, this made me chuckle, talk about an "Urban Legend", someone of my aquaintence beleived the myth that putting a couple of CD's in the rear window of your car meant they caused a distorted image recorded on "Safety Camera's" !!! He now uses public transport. Quote If it ain't broke.........
mat777 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Save them for Christmas, they sparkle when they are spinning. I have never tried this but it just popped in to my head, take a string of lights, unscrew the bulbs, put the centre hole of the disc over the socket, then screw the bulb back in, that should look cool. Remember shiny side facing the bulb, more reflectivity. Or you could glue a load together in a stack and make a model skyscraper? Or use them for claypigeon shooting? wellies Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I saw some at a craft show that had been decorated made into clocks. I thought they looked good. So much better than stringing them all together to make a suit. Then standing out in the road making Wooo....Woooing noises pretending to be an alien from outer space. Plastic Nev Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Here is one I found on another forum, and was a response to someone wanting to keep the local cat of her garden. Just plant them in the soil on their edge, or even just laid flat, apparently the reflection scares the cat and it runs off. It must work to some extent because my cat was very wary of one I offered to it. He wouldn't even come and sniff it as he will with most other things. Quote Need help with your computer problems?
