Office 2003

Hi

I hope I'm doing this right ! I have microsoft Office 2003, and XP professional.

The problem i have is when i try to open word, excell etc... i get a message saying " Preparing to install", this then moves onto another message that reads " an error has occured and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now yes or no". I click yes and the message " preparing to install" comes up again, this hangs for ages then another message appeares saying " Microsoft office word has not been installed for the current user. Please run set up to install the application"

This programm was working fine 2 wks ago !, i have had a couple of crashes and a couple of trogans!

I'm desperate to get this fixed as I have a portfolio to hand into collage and most of the work is in word stored on pc !!!!!

This may be a problem with User Permissions, try this:

 

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Log on to the computer by using an Administrator user account.
   
2. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer.
   
3. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
   
4. Click the View tab.
   
5. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
   
6. Click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
   
7. Open the following folder:C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\
   
8. If you are running Office 2003, right-click Opa11.dat, and then click Properties. If you are running Office XP, right-click Data.dat, and then click Properties.
   
9. Click the Security tab.
   
10. Click Advanced.
    
11. Click the Permissions tab.
    
12. Click to select Everyone in the Permission entries list, and then click Edit.
    
13. Click to select the Full Control check box.
    
14. Click OK three times.
    

If these steps do not resolve this issue, delete the Opa11.dat file or the Data.dat file from the following folder, and then restart an Office 2003 program or an Office XP programC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

The trojan issue is indeed disturbing but let's start with the basics first.

 

I assume you have the original Microsoft Office disks. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling from the original Office disks that you bought?

If I read it correctly, you might be able to successfully use the Office Products by signing into an Administrator Account on your computer.

one thing i did forget to say was has a free trile of Office 2007 which ended , would this stop word working ?

You might want to also check that your version is Genuine since you got this computer second hand.

2. Click on the Tools at the menu bar, then click on Folder Options.
   
3. Click on View tab.
   
4. In the Advanced Settings section at the bottom of the list, uncheck and unselect (clear the tick) on the “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)” check box.
   
5. Click OK.

You're looking at the properties of a Folder then.

Folder layout is: General - Sharing - Security - Customize

File layout is: General - Security - Summary

 

Go back and look at the properties of Opa11.dat.

right have gone into opa11.dat - gives me general only, i also have opa12.dat and this gives me the same. DATA gives me general, sharing and customize

SWash please go back to the problem computer.

 

Set a restore point so you can easily undo any changes.

 

Safety first.

 

Verify that your copy of Office is legit to rule out any propblem with that.

 

The last thing we want to do is make things worse or dig you into a hole.

Right restore point set , I can't conect to internet as yet as i'm at work and don't know how to get onto their wireless system ( I'm really not very good at this am I ) so will have to check later if copy of office is ligit ( although i must say this is the first problem i've had with it in a year and i dont get any warning issues saying its not ligit)
