which software do I use to open a word document

I have got a word document on my desktop which I wish to open and it wont let me.I have not got word on my computer and was wondering if there was any software I could download to open just this one document.

or right Click, click open with and select notepad if you only need to look at it. But if you want a word processor to open and create more advanced documents go to one of the links above:)
