server rejoined to domain with same name question

Hi,

Maybe this isn't a big deal but wanted to validate.

I took a member server off the domain via computer name settings (joined to

workgroup)

restarted

rebuilt the server about an hour later

rejoined to the domain

when a server is joined, by default it becomes a member of the computers OU

for GPO purposes, we move the server object manually to another OU (named

Servers)

the server object was still in the Servers OU when rejoined (in a disabled

state), the created date was the original time the original server was

built, but the last modified date was the time it was rejoined again to the

domain.

Theres no scary event logs on the server, it seems to be fine - is it?

Or should the server be taken off the domain again, object deleted manually

in ADUC, then rejoined?

Thanks!

Re: server rejoined to domain with same name question

When you remove and rejoin, AD will autodetect and use back the original OU.

Re: server rejoined to domain with same name question

when you rejoined you would of noticed server did not go into default OU

because the name was already defined - what you need to do is dis join from

domain and delete the old computer object - then re join it will go to

default OU then you can move any where - or before re joining just re carete

the computer account wherever u want it and it will auto go there
