i need some hel on installing and loading an olde game on my laptop!!!

Hi guys.

 

this is my first time in this forum so i'll say a quick hello.

 

Im stuck on a coule of things that i am desperate to get some help for.

 

I recently bought a pc game which was created in the 90's. i tried to install the game by the usual methods but it won't start.

 

After tryng some many possible ways of getting the game to load i contacted the seller to see how he got the game to start.

 

As you can imagine this guy was no help at all. all he said was i had to change my settings to be able to play the game but i aint no professor so i am absolutly stuck.

 

I would very much appreciate some good advice and help from someone who knows what they are doing.

It obviously seems that the game was designed to run on say 98 for example which is a dos environment.

I'm surmising that now your running XP which runs on NTFS

You would have to obtain software that creates a simulated dos environment for it to work.

The install won't run, or the game won't run once installed? If the installer won't run, I'll need to give myself a refresher course on how to finagle that, but if it will install, then there's something pretty easy you can try.

 

Assuming you're running Windows XP, you can go to the shortcut you run the game from (this is easiest if there's an icon on the desktop), right-click, go to Properties, then the Compatilities tab. Under there, you can activate "Compatibiilty Mode" which will cause XP to run the game as if it were either Win95, 98, or NT. As well, if it's a particularly old (90-93, for example), you may have to turn on the various Display Settings under that tab - "Run in 256 Colors", "Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution", and "Disable Visual Themes".

 

Disabling Visual Themes may help your performance with other older games that do run in XP, but were designed for 95 or 98, though I don't know if it's altogether necessary.
