Safe to run Office 2007 with SBS 2003

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am posting today to find if anybody is running Office 2007 with SBS 2003

and a Terminal Server? I am looking to upgrade a client to use Office 2007

from Office 2003 and I wnated to make sure that Outlook 2007 plays nice with

Exchange 2003 on the SBS?

Anybody having any issues? Is there anything special that needs to be done.

I am aware of a possible issue with Outlook Web but I think that was more due

to the Vista side of things.

Again, I just want to make sure that all is well before I deploy Office 2007

company wide?

Thanks much and have a great day!

Outlook should never be installled on an Exchange Server as they use

different versions of mapi32.dll.

This is true for Exchange/Outlook 2003, but not anymore for

Exchange/Outlook 2007:

Installing Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2007 server

http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archive/2007/02/27/installing-outlook-

2007-on-an-exchange-2007-server.aspx

Eric, the Outlook 2007 client is compatible with Exchange 2003 as

long as they don't run on the same server. Check this for details:

I'm running that configuration - Office 2007 on Terminal Server 2003 R2 - all

I can say is briliant. Outlook automatically configures itself for the users

profile - another thing you don't need to do.

Life is all about automation and less work for administrators!

Thank you kindly for the information, I was certain you could run Outlook

2007 on the Exchange Server however, I have installed it on the TS Server for

users running Terminal Services and it runs Fabulously!

Vera, can you send me the links again, they do not appear on the links that

you sent. I did find some good information for my installation but I would

just like to make sure that I have it all configured properly. It does run

GREAT!

Thanks again!

The links are OK, but they have wrapped around in my post, and some

blanks were inserted, so you'll have to do some cutting and pasting

in the IE address bar.

Having used both Office 2007 and 2003, I will fight moving to 2007 until

the last possible moment - it's a total pig and most people are not

smart enough to save-as office 2003 format when working with other

people.

Outlook 2007 works fine with Exchange 2003 - DO NOT INSTALL IT ON THE

SERVER ITSELF (SBS that is).
