DEP Issue in Win2K3 -- All options greyed out.

Ok, this one has me scratching my head a bit so I figured I'd see if

anyone here (maybe an MVP?) had an idea.

Win2K3 Ent box, not sure offhand what patch level. Going into the

options for DEP (System Properties/Advanced/Performance Options/Data

Execution Prevention tab) I find EVERYTHING is greyed out. Thing is,

DEP is NOT disabled on the box though. Looking in the boot.ini, the box

has /NoExecute=OptOut.

I'm logging in with administrator rights, other boxes in the enterprise

are configurable here but not this one.

Any suggestions where to look?

RE: DEP Issue in Win2K3 -- All options greyed out.

I am not an MVP but I hope I can help. As a policy Microsoft seems to have

decided not to allow disabling DEP through GUI post Sp2 in xp and sp1 in 2k3.

an MVP might be able to comment :)

Problem is, everything is disabled on this 'un. You can't make ANY

changes via the GUI -- be it the addition of exceptions or otherwise.

It's definitely something unique to this box though; I have plenty of

other boxes under my influence that don't suffer the issue. And DEP is

definitely enabled; an install exited on this box for just this reason

(although the app could have issued an incorrect error, it's a

mainstream app so that's not a common issue with DEP).

I'm REALLY hoping someone has an answer on this; I'm not getting

anywhere and the last thing I want to do is reconfig this box over

something this small.
