Hi folks,

I'm needing to buy a new desktop (urgently!) and would like to know if anyone has any great websites I could use - speedy delivery is crucial.

I also don't know what make to get!

I need my PC for home as I am employed to work from home so want something a bit better than the average home PC.. I've heard terrible things about vista (my current/now old pc is XP) but an IT bod in my company has recommended a Pentium with Business Vista....whadya reckon?

Thanks!

Hi,

Certainly stay with an Intel, Core 2 Duo's are superb, speedy, energy efficient and will do anything an office PC asks of them.

Ebuyer are a good start, delivery is next day on most items. I've picked up a few links to PC's you could have a look at as a starting point.

Acer Veriton M464, Core 2 Duo E7300 2.6GHz, 640GB HDD, 2GB RAM, DVD±RW, Vista Business/XP Pro - Ebuyer

*Cashback until April 30th* HP DX2400 Business Desktop, Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD Supermulti Lightscribe, Office Ready (Trial), Vista Business Downgraded To XP Pro L1710 TFT + 2GB Mem - Ebuyer

As for Vista - you'll either love it or loath it. It works just fine for most people, personally I can take it in small doses only :)

If you buy a system that has Vista Business installed you will almost always get a downgrade DVD to XP Pro, and sometimes the XP is installed with a Vista DVD supplied. It's worth noting if you want the choice - lots of office PC's are still downgraded to XP Pro.

I quite like XP still, and it does have a performance advantage over Vista.
