high memory usage of Spoolsv.exe

Recommended Posts

Posted

i had a terminal server with the spec below:

Intel Xeon CPU 3.0GHz, 8GB RAM, 100 concurrent user logging in.

1. the problem i had with it is that the printer session is not deleted

after the client log off for certain users.

2. the spoolsv.exe with consume a lot of memory usage until the error

message come up saying the the spoolsv.exe need to be debugged.

the problem was solved by restarting the print spooler service. however, the

spoolsv.exe will goes up after 30 mins as the is a lot of printing job.

PLEASE ADVISE.

thanks.

Re: high memory usage of Spoolsv.exe

What is the OS on the server side? Win 2003?

For the sessions where the remote printer does not get deleted, was there

any active print job on that printer?

Thanks,

Have you tried deleting the profile for one of the users and letting it

get rebuilt? BTW, are you using local or roaming profiles?

does this have anything to do with the profile?? i'm using local profile.

there is around 200 profile in the server, which profile do i need to

delete.

i've installed the UPH clean to help remap the profile if there is any thing

happen.

Re: high memory usage of Spoolsv.exe

It's more likely that the problem is caused by an incompatible 3rd

part printer driver.

Can you see any pattern as to which printer model causes the

problems (redirected printer not deleted, spoolsv takes 100% CPU)?

Re: high memory usage of Spoolsv.exe

i would like to take that as an cause to this problem as well.

I have an example here, HP laserjet 1020, i've installed the latest driver

in the server. However, the deletion of redirected printer works for certain

desktop only. Althoug i've patched up those desktop, use RDP 6.0, it still

can't delete off the redirected printer when they log off.

I have tried to reinstall each and every printer driver in the server.

I would said that, the problem would occur during when the user log in in

the morning and when the user need to print out a lot of document.

Shall i consider take out the number of user logging into the server ??

Currently, there are 200 users logging into this terminal server.

Re: high memory usage of Spoolsv.exe

Unfortunately, the HP LJ 1020 is not TS compatible. That certainly

explains the problems you see.

I would uninstall the driver from your TS, as it could easily cause

the print spooler to crash.
