Guest KingBuzzo Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Hi Fellas: If I am using the media and license key from my TechNet subscription, is it possible to upgrade the license to retail after-the-fact? If it is, should I NOT do the product activation (with the TechNet key) at all and just perform the activcation with the retail key when I get it or should I activate with the TechNet key and then perform an in-place upgrade when I get the new key? Also, if I have to re-install when I receive a new key, what happens at the service pack/hotfix level? Would I have to re-apply? Does it keep any settings at all? Thanks!

Guest KingBuzzo Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Re: TechNet Eval 2003 R2... Do you know if SQL would be the same? We have to get a website ready on a very short timeline. We have already sent out the PO's for the software but want to get it built ASAP. Thanks. Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Re: TechNet Eval 2003 R2... I haven't tried SQL Server personally, but a simple google leads me to: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281574 So upgrading to retail should be possible. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "KingBuzzo" <KingBuzzo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:76B60693-B9B1-4FB8-974E-70BD59AA931C@microsoft.com... > Do you know if SQL would be the same? > > We have to get a website ready on a very short timeline. > > We have already sent out the PO's for the software but want to get it > built > ASAP. > > Thanks. > > "Jabez Gan [MVP]" wrote: > >> See answer inline . >> >> -- >> Jabez Gan >> Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage >> "KingBuzzo" <KingBuzzo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:8F14B456-480E-459E-BCB3-FBF82314C4EE@microsoft.com... >> > Hi Fellas: >> > >> > If I am using the media and license key from my TechNet subscription, >> > is >> > it >> > possible to upgrade the license to retail after-the-fact? >> >> You can upgrade to retail from trial. >> > >> > If it is, should I NOT do the product activation (with the TechNet key) >> > at >> > all and just perform the activcation with the retail key when I get it >> > or >> > should I activate with the TechNet key and then perform an in-place >> > upgrade >> > when I get the new key? >> >> You can upgrade to retail after activating the trial. >> >> > >> > Also, if I have to re-install when I receive a new key, what happens at >> > the >> > service pack/hotfix level?
