Guest mike Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Hi, We are using Windows 2000 Server in Windows 2000 Exchange server and our domain name is "silvertidesoftware.com". From last night we are unable to receive any mails. The mails we are sending other domains are going but we are not receiving any mail there is no error message while clicking the send/ receive button in the outlook express. I have restarted all the services. We checked the SMTP and the POP3 configuration looks fine. We even tried dismounting and mounting the information store. We even did the integrity check. Only problem is that we are not receiving any mails from our and other mail server. We are able send mails to other mail server and not our mail server. I have sent lost of test mail we are not receiving any mails. Please some buddy helps us. Thanks Mike

I'm setting up this reply to crosspost to that group. Your DNS looks fine and I can reach your exchange server on port 25. What about testing using OWA? So far all you've demonstrated is that you can't connect your mail client to your server, not that your server isn't getting any mail from the Internet. What about message tracking in Exchange System Manager? Why are you using OE and POP to collect mail from your Exchange server? Exchange is awfully expensive to use for that purpose.

Your Exchange server itself appears to be having problems. Don't worry about the NDR message - that isn't relevant. Check for other event log errors.

Oops - didn't look closely enough - you've got an MX record mail.silvertidesoftware.com but you don't have an A record for it. However, you do have other problems on your server if you can't use OWA or Outlook and are relying on POP3.

Hi Thank you for your answers. Still we are not able to receive any external or internal mails We have checked the DSN configuration and point the DNS IP provide by our ISP. We are getting following resulting the NSLOOKUP: silvertidesoftware.com MX prefernece = 10, mail exchager = stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns1.mcleodusa.net silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns2.mcleodusa.net silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns3.mcleodusa.net ns1.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.2 ns2.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.10 ns3.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.18 I see the mails are struck in the queue. Servers-> server->protocols->SMTP->default smtp server-> queues I even tried the forceconnection for each queues and refreshed and no sign of improvement. When I try the Telnet silvertidesoftware.com 25 it's connecting. I have used the TestMailer software and its give the following message Attempt to send message with reference 5. Preparing message ... I think there is problem with the SMTP. It's not forwarding mail to our domain. Could you please tell us how properly re-configure SMTP. Is there any other way to forward the mails? Feel free to give us any suggestions on the problem. Thank you in advance

You need to have this created for you. Right now your MX record is pointing at a CNAME - this is a Bad Thing. > > We have checked the DSN configuration and point the DNS IP provide by > our ISP. > > We are getting following resulting the NSLOOKUP: > > silvertidesoftware.com MX prefernece = 10, mail exchager = > stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com > silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns1.mcleodusa.net > silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns2.mcleodusa.net > silvertidesoftware.com nameserver = ns3.mcleodusa.net > ns1.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.2 > ns2.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.10 > ns3.mcleodusa.net internet address = 209.253.113.18 > > I see the mails are struck in the queue. > Servers-> server->protocols->SMTP->default smtp server-> queues > I even tried the forceconnection for each queues and refreshed and no > sign of improvement. > > When I try the Telnet silvertidesoftware.com 25 it's connecting. Recap - this part's pretty simple. Your sole MX record is set to stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com. There is no matching A record for that. Create an A record for stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com and point it at your public IP. > > I have used the TestMailer software and its give the following message > > Attempt to send message with reference 5. > Preparing message ... > Message from: sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com > Message to: sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com > Resolving SMTP hosts, using DNS server: 202.54.6.60 > Query MX records for silvertidesoftware.com ... > Found MX: (010) stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com > Trying to send message via stsserver.silvertidesoftware.com ... > Connecting ... > < 220 stsserver.SilverTideSoftware.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, > Version: 5.0.2195.6713 ready at Tue, 18 Dec 2007 21:56:31 -0700 >> HELO datacentre > < 250 stsserver.SilverTideSoftware.com Hello [219.64.115.163] >> RSET > < 250 2.0.0 Resetting >> MAIL FROM:<sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com> > < 250 2.1.0 sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com....Sender OK >> RCPT TO:<sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com> > < 250 2.1.5 sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com >> DATA > < 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> >> From: sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com >> Subject: test (ref: 5) >> To: sysadmin_cbe@silvertidesoftware.com >> Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2007 10:31:06 +0530 >> >> test >> >> >> ** Test Mailer trial version, for more information visit >> http://www.digiarch.org ** . > < 250 2.6.0 > <STSSERVERIN4MmXKCnz00000041@stsserver.SilverTideSoftware.com> Queued > mail for delivery >> QUIT > Disconnected > Mail successfully sent and accepted. > > > I think there is problem with the SMTP. Guest mike Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Re: Unable to send/receive mails Hi Lanwench, Thank you for your answer. i really appreciated it. We figured out that the SMTP was causing a conflict with Exchange. So I re-install Exchange server and its service packs to have the proper SMTP Virtual server again. Now every thing seems to be normal. We are able to receive internal and external mails. The store.exe was eating up my CPU/Memory. Then figured out that I have set the Diagnostic Login to maximum and change it none. I will ask my ISP provider to create the A record. Still the WOA is not working, we need to figure out that one. Can you help me in this part? I ready to give you more details on this. We don't where it really went wrong because our mail server is working for passed six years without any problems. Once again thank you. Mike.

Glad to hear it, but you do need to fix your domain's DNS records. > > The store.exe was eating up my CPU/Memory. Please post a new message in microsoft.public.exchange.clients, containing all the pertinent details, as it's a different question (& this thread is getting a little stale). > > We don't where it really went wrong because our mail server is working > for passed six years without any problems. Can't say, sorry. > > Once again thank you. > > Mike.
