tricey7 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hi, Well... I have a Windows 2000 pro desktop pc, and I have a Acer 3003WLM laptop with Windows Xp Pro. I have my 500gb external hard drive plugged into my desktop and I would like to set up a connection wirelessly so that I can access my external hard drive from the laptop. They both have wireless that works by my netgear router and they both connect fine and get the internet. i would really like to be able to do this, Many Thanks in Advance. Adam Quote
Tootech Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I'm a bit rusty on Windows 2000, but its just about the same as XP as far as sharing goes. You need to make sure both PC's are in the same networked workgroup. XP Pro default is workgroup, but I can't remember 2000's default setting. If needs be change it. To share the drive on your 2000 machine, have a look here Sharing a Windows 2000 Hard Disk Drive Going back to your XP laptop, click Start, then over to My Network Places You should be able to see your 2000 machine, then you can double click it to open it and hopefully see your shared drive. Sometimes firewalls need a bit of configuring - if you are having trouble temporarily disable them. Quote
tricey7 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 nope, this says that when i right click it should say sharing. But my hard drive or any folders do not have the option to click sharing. Hmmmm... Quote
maynardvdm Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hi When you right-click do you see this: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn297/Mjfreepchelp/sharingsec.png or you can right-click and select Properties and then click on the sharing tab like this: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn297/Mjfreepchelp/sharing2.png Quote We are all members helping other members. starams5 Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Hi Try FTP. You will need a FTP Server & Client. It would probably be much easier than Windows Networking. Quote
tricey7 Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 No, and by the way the part that i want to share is on windows 2000. And there is no option of that. Thanks Quote
maynardvdm Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Hi Make sure you have administrator rights.
